I am a Newham resident with a background in architecture and master planning.

I am passionate about inclusive placemaking and a firm believer of the 15-minute neighbourhood.

I am also a Volunteer Neighbourhood facilitator with Planning Aid for London, working with individuals and communities all over London helping them understand and develop effective working relationships with residents and key stakeholders, by putting in place arrangements to support joint planning, monitoring and delivery of projects in partnership with residents.

Tariq Mukadam5 years ago the Alley way is currently being used as a public latrine and drug use and rubbish dump that promotes vermin infestation and does not promote health and social inclusion.The smell is atrocious and does not promote safety to the square, which also needs a green uplift. The Alley way itself could be a great way to reconnect Rochester Avenue to green street as a pedestrian connection. by proposing an uplift to the Alley way below Hamara Gar, it would deter the shops from leaving the commercial bins, people using it as a public toilet and others using it for drug use. the back of the shops also calls for an uplift perhaps through some beautiful coloured murals that enhances it visually.removing the existing fenced area and opening this up perhaps with some timber decking step could deal with the level change, the walls cleaned to take on some art works or light display that could also be connected with soothing sounds promoting a soothing space. an idea similar to the barbican road tunnel but brighter to deter antisocial behaviour. could this space be a new skateboard park? It has a long passageway at the back of the shops that currently also encourages a lot of fly-tipping during late nights . by bringing an element of play such as skateboarding and creating a direct well light connection could promote natural surveillance.

Unfortunately, most high streets have been designed around cars.on a busy day along green street, it is really hard if you want to walk, cycle and breath clean air. introduce car Free days that make the whole of Green street open to cyclist and pedestrians. (retain or redirect public transport ) have bikes that can be rented/free within the zone for people to do their usual shopping or cycle along. turn the street into an event to promote people to come and spend time. transform the street into convivial public spaces, that promotes sitting/playing/walking

Tariq Mukadam5 years ago Introduce vertical allotment above the carpark could bring resident of Hamara Gar and the green street retailers to collaborate together in producing local veg that could then be sold at a cheaper price, since it is being grown locally. (short term prototype) to test behaviour change and whether there is hunger for creating something more long term? By growing vertically , there is potential to not occupy any parking spaces. or perhaps if we do become a fully walking /cycling street the whole of the car park to be retransform ( long term) in a more substantial high street allotment that can be a source to helping the needy having access to free vegetables? perhaps a self contained vertical automated hydroponic vegetable garden

Tariq Mukadam5 years ago promoting health and bringing people back to the high street.Open street, to take place a couple of days a week and weekend where all forms of transport are banned( except perhaps buses) and the high street becomes an open street. replace existing car park spaces by parklets. showing that car space is also public space that can be used for people activities instead. A day where we could invite local entrepreneurs to exhibit what they do and the street host a food stall , giving a chance for existing and new restaurant to present there food outside of there premises.
