Hannah Duthie3 years ago Help the community in Rainbow Gardens that has grown (thanks to previous Community Assembly funding) create new pathways and renew the concrete so we can be fully accessible and inclusive space. The ground is crumbling and uneven which means we have to rope off unsafe areas before we can open to the community. A new concrete base would mean we could be fully open and could accommodate wheelchair users in our community gardening sessions.Please note:This project is subject to permission being granted by the Parks Team if successful

Hannah Duthie4 years ago I propose using the funding to make a small area with new skatepark facilities to give young people a safe and dedicated area to meet up and share their passion for skateboarding in Newham, preferably within E6 - for example in Central Park, Brampton or New City Green park,Most play areas locally are suitable for Under 8's and there is little to no provision for teenagers. I have a 15 yr old who loves to skate and we currently have to travel out of newham to access skate facilities - either to Barking, Mudchute, Mile End or Southbank.Supporting and targeting priority 1 (safe, cleaner, more accessible) and priority 3 (parks and open spaces) from our current neighbourhood priorities this project would create facilities that Newham currently doesn't have locally. It would support and enhance other projects that aim to tackle health issues such as obesity, diabetics and mental health in young people (which has been exacerbated in many families due to covid restrictions).

Hannah Duthie5 years ago I would like to install tiny libraries in the E6 area. A tiny library offers a safe place for books to be exchanged and passed around the E6 area. The idea is that local people donate used books for children and adults to pick up for free. I would use this funding to buy three tiny libraries from a local carpenter and would install them in three key areas in the Central Park area of E6. Given our high levels of deprivation and need in the borough , I think every child deserves the right to access good quality books without a cost. This is sustainable way of recycling books and help the area to thrive and promote a safe family feel.

Hannah Duthie5 years ago My teenage son loves to skateboard. He often wants to meet his friends and hang out !! We live opposite Central Park which has no dedicated space for skateboarding. He sometimes walks down to Brampton Park to skate on the concrete base left from the old rainbow building. We have to go down to Mudchute to access a proper skateboard park setup with rails and ramps. To do this we have drive out of newham as it is not local and our son can’t go on his own. I would like my son and other young people to be able to safely walk to a skate park within Newham. Skating gets my son outside exercising and socialising at the same time. Promoting a proper skate community would give our young people a focus and a safe place to express themselves. Due to lockdown my son has mainly been stuck in his bedroom and like other young people now need their interests and well being prioritised in order to recover from this unusual year. We know there are community garden plans for Brampton Park But believe the huge concrete site of the old rainbow building would make an ideal skate park site.
