Laura Glendinning 1 year ago Woodgrange market set up by residents 13 years ago needs a bit of refurbishment in order to work at capacity. Some new gazebos will make all the difference £2410 is all we need. Environment and Public Space - Every Saturday the market transforms a little area of Forest Gate into a community space where people gather. This helps with social isoaltion and encourages community cohesion. The market is a creative space which provides local employment and some retail not available elsewhere locally. It is a public space where events can be held on an annual basis for example Forest Gayte Pride and the Christmas light switch on. Health and Well being - Woodgrange market offers homemade, organic and freshly cooked produce, this gives customers a more healthy choice. Mental health is improved by social interactions and a community experience. Many people volunteer in the market every week. A youth mental health charity meets in the market every Saturday. Community Safety - Creating a community hub where people feel they have ownership and are valued provides a safe place to be, it can also strengthen community resilience against crime and anti social behavior.

Laura Glendinning 5 years ago There are very few public toilets in Newham, none in Forest Gate. People tend to use the tree at the top of Hampton road or any corner they can find . This is mainly men, but who can blame them as there is nowhere to go. It is part of being human we need to go to the loo regularly so why do we not have properly managed toilets . The cafe / toilet scheme which Newham has proposed just doesn't work , there are too many things that the cafe has to provide and why would you want lots of people traipsing through . there are so many delivery people coming through the borough which has increased the amount of bottles on the roads filled with urine, we need to be a society that looks after people and their needs . well we all need toilets .

Laura Glendinning 3 years ago "Community Signage" Welcoming people to Forest Gate and what it is has to offer. Helping residents to find their way safely, letting people know what is available in the area. Over several years different groups have set up community projects either through the community assembly or by other forms of funding . Lots of these have been very successful - The Forest Gate Community Garden, the Up Garden, Art courses at the Gate library, dance classes at the Youth Zone, the Magpie Project, Woodgrange Market, Emmanuel Church garden to name but a few. If you are in the know , you can find these easily if you are not signage can help. I propose a community map outside the station and signs to help people . Signage helps people participate in things they didn't even know existed.This project is subject to permission being granted by the LBN if successful

Laura Glendinning 4 years ago Something needs to be done about the parking at the top of Hampton Road the junction with Woodgrange road . People often park on double yellow lines to collect food or go to the coop this means the entrance / exit at the top of the road is reduced causing a back log onto Woodgrange road . This particularly happens in the evening. I think the parking up there should be for F as well rather than paid for . then anyone who parks there can only be from our estate. I'm not sure this scheme in its present state will make Hampton less busy. Will it have a dead end sign at the top so that people know they cant get through to anywhere ? I think traffic calming is good in principle and we will get used to it . This is effect makes the whole estate a cul de sac. Thank you

Laura Glendinning 4 years ago High streets need more greenery, pollution levels are high and this is one way of improving this. Making our public spaces more pleasant to be in and encouraging people to value them . If people enjoy being in the space they litter less and it is good for their mental health and I think creating green spaces in the concrete parts of the high street can do this.Trees can be planted in planters above the ground in Woodgrange High street, local residents and shop keepers will get involved in maintaining them.Last year we did this in Upton Lane and it has been really successful getting everyone involved and changing the road for the better. I am a resident in Forest Gate and the application is for £5000 for planters, soil and trees. The Budget is at follows :3 large planters £4350 - £1450 each. with soil and plants Two small planters for single trees £600 - £300 each Spring Bulbs £50. total £5000

Laura Glendinning 5 years ago Woodgrange market place – a community space. This market was set up by residents and continues to be run by volunteers, encouraging community and new business ideas. Recently through two art installations the marketplace has become a facilitator for projects, bringing people together from all parts of the community and giving pleasure to many people as they walk through. We would like to continue this by creating a performance space in the market where people can watch, listen and enjoy music and other artists. We want to create a place where people can meet each other sit for a while and relax in a safe place. Our aim would be to make a sustainable performance space for busking and to produce a short repeatable pantomime in December encouraging as many people as possible to be involved. Pre COVID the market had regular music events which were popular and well attended, and we would like to build on this experience.

Laura Glendinning 5 years ago To combat the pollution , and improve air quality. To improve the look of of the high street . I think we could remove the closed toilets just behind Iceland and we could have a greener space there . We could have blossom trees down the high street . I think developers should have to put some gardens in all developments, not just balconies. Waltham Forest has a vertical garden that is supposed to equal 275 trees with seats under it . It doesn’t look so good in the photo .
