Nicole Bello1 year ago Mums, Babies & Toddlers ProjectSphere Support CIC is proposing a new community project to support mothers, babies, and toddlers in Newham Stratford. Many local families face challenges such as isolation, low income, and limited access to affordable early years activities. This project will provide a safe, welcoming space where families can come together, learn, and build lasting connections.The project will run weekly sessions offering: Play-based learning and activities to support toddlers’ early development. Workshops for mums on health, nutrition, parenting skills, and child development. Peer support and networking, helping mothers reduce isolation and share experiences. Guest professionals, such as health visitors and nutritionists, to provide practical advice. By creating opportunities for both parents and children, the project will improve health and wellbeing, confidence, and community belonging. We expect to reach 40–50 families regularly, benefitting at least 60–80 individuals.We are applying for funding to cover staffing, venue hire, equipment, and resources to make the project accessible and free for families most in need. Our goal is to give children the best start in life while helping mothers feel supported, connected, and empowered in their community.

Sharon Alleyne1 year ago The project is to provide two wheelchair accessible planters, a shelter from the extreme sunshine and rain, a polytunnel to grow plants from seed of which some will be sold as part of the sustainability of the project, increase the current number of fruit and vegetable planters and repair the historic Bawley prawn play boat. To hold three events to bring people together to foster relationships and forge a larger community.The project is based around health and well-being of the residents. It is a safe supervised alcohol and smoking and vaping free environment. It brings local residents and residents from other parts of Newham together. The allotment provide organically grown fruit and vegetables. The overall scheme provides nutritional, physical and financial benefits addressing health issues and the cost-of-living crisis for low income people. Other benefits of the garden are social interaction, interaction with nature, health benefits associated with gardening, positive impact on those suffering from isolation and loneliness, anxiety, stress and depression. It helps with the dexterity of the young, disabled and elderly. Positively impacting on the general health and well-being of individuals and the overall community.

MAUK Malay Association UK1 year ago MAUK has a proud history of organising a wide range of community events throughout Newham since 2019 that celebrate diversity, promote health, and foster social connection.Our year-long 2026/27 community engagement initiative, expected to benefit around 300 people, addresses the deep isolation present in our local population, where individuals of diverse races, ages, and cultural backgrounds often remain within their own social circles. This project aims to foster integration across generations, races, and cultures, encourage meaningful social interaction, and provide safe, inclusive spaces where people can connect and learn from one another.We offer a varied calendar of events—from cultural celebrations such as Eid, Diwali, Christmas, and Chinese New Year to health-focused sessions on CPR and diabetes awareness. These activities promote physical and mental well-being while building bridges between communities.Older adults receive special attention to help overcome loneliness and build confidence in participating in social gatherings. Cooking classes teach how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals, supporting healthier lifestyles and easing the impact of rising living costs.Fundraising food bazaars sustain the programme and promote local entrepreneurship by showcasing traditional cuisines. Wellness activities such as walkathons, cycling, Zumba and Tai Chi classes, and indoor sports encourage active living, while plant festival visits and creative workshops nurture mindfulness. Mental health talks reduce stigma and connect people with vital support.With a growing number of participants, we face serious constraints without funding. Events are sometimes held in volunteer back gardens, which are unsuitable for larger gatherings and limit accessibility. The association relies on small donations and membership fees, which are insufficient to sustain or expand the initiative.We seek funding to secure proper venues, cover operational costs, and broaden our outreach. This project will reduce isolation, encourage healthy habits, and build a stronger, more connected community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered.Together, let’s champion a vibrant, healthy, and connected Newham where everyone belongs. Ms A Charles1 year ago Beyond Food: Connecting Newham Residents to Critical Services via Foodbanks B348What is the Beyond Food Project?The Beyond Food project, led by Deep Boroughs Network in partnership with local foodbanks, universities (UEL), and the Stratford & Newham community, will research 30+ and support foodbank users in Stratford and West Ham from March 2026 to February 2027. Our initiatives will benefit thousands of people through shared insights and enhanced services. We will capture their real stories, challenges, and barriers through videos, photos, research, and interviews, so we can help improve their lives beyond food banks, focusing on critical areas such as mental health, housing, jobs, loneliness, disabilities, and community support.Why This MattersNewham’s £22.2 million homelessness overspend highlights the role of food banks in easing burdens. Many people in Newham's food banks face multiple challenges.We want to connect them to helpful services, such as: Social prescribing (connecting people to community activities) Newham Leisure schemes (free or discounted activities) Gym and pharmacy vouchers Library support and community activities Mental health resources Well Newham networks These connections will improve lives and ease pressure on the NHS. Foodbank users support reduces the impact of homelessness, improving community safety and spaces. Our work supports Newham’s online platforms and the Steps to Health framework.We will also listen to residents’ experiences to make sure their voices shape the project.How We Will HelpWith funding from the PPP Grant (£20K) we will offer tailored support to vulnerable adults. As a resident beekeeper, I will host a series of interactive workshops and community events aimed at people of all ages.Our plan includes:Weekly beekeeping sessions from April to September for anyone interested.A vibrant World Bee Day celebration at Abbey Gardens for the entire community.Creative beeswax workshops for adults during the winter.This initiative directly addresses the priorities of Health and Wellbeing, Community Safety, and Community Development. By fostering a deeper connection with nature and providing safe, welcoming spaces, we will reduce isolation, build stronger community bonds, and educate residents on how to safely coexist with our vital pollinators.This project is a call to action for our community to get involved, learn, and grow together. Tiwa King1 year ago · Following the profound impact of SENshine Fest at Timber Lodge, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Summer 25, inspired by the love of a mother for her autistic son and the lack of SEN friendly safe activities, we welcomed 200 families and 200 on the waiting list. The community asked, “What can we, as a community, do to make this regular provision for our families?” The SENshine Project is the answer. A bold, youth-led programme co-designed and steered by four autistic young leaders and their families, it transforms one moment of joy ( The SENshine Fest) into sustained, sensory-aware weekly sessions and two community SENshine Fest showcases. SENshine expands access, reduces isolation, strengthens family resilience, increases wellbeing and creates safe spaces where young people with SEN can be themselves, free and happy with no judgement. It proves that communities hold the solutions to their own challenges, giving families with SEN, and those who want to learn and embrace them, the chance to truly shine.

Priscilla Igwe1 year ago We are planning to deliver PictureEast Film Festival 2027 (PEFF27), a free 7 day community and cultural celebration taking place in Newham for the third time, from January 25-31, 2027. From March 2026, there will be monthly sessions to engage artists and organisations in every aspect of the PEFF27 - leading to skills development, hands-on training, volunteering opportunities and work placements. The event will showcase the borough's rich diversity allowing groups to express themselves and feel safe. Our programme will feature a carefully curated mix of artforms, live performances, talks, Q&A sessions, marketplace, children’s activities and signposting professional services when exploring themes of identity, difference and lived experience. We pride ourselves on welcoming all backgrounds to join us and find common ground through conversation and creativity.TNBFC is a social enterprise and we use film as a tool for social impact and transformative change. For the last decade, we have been regularly commissioned by the council and other funders to run Newham Community Cinema at Stratford Library. Beloved by local residents, it reflects the cultural calendar from Holocaust Memorial Day, Pride, International Women’s Day, Windrush Day, Srebrenica Memorial Day to Black History Month, Islamophobia Awareness Month and Disability History Month.

Anna Chapman1 year ago Lioness Leaders Promo My name is Audra and I live in Stratford. Girls drop out of sport due to a lack of confidence amongst boys as their bodies change. We would love to run our own youth-led project delivered by young females to empower other young females. The project is called Lioness Leaders which aims to engage girls aged 12–16 in Stratford through learning about what women have achieved in football, through developing new skills with professional coaches; developing wellbeing and mentoring skills; understanding healthy living through creating smoothies and healthy snacks and creative filmmaking to share their experiences. The project offers a safe, inclusive space where young participants can build confidence, learn new skills and challenge gender stereotypes in football.By combining physical activity, mental health support and creative media, Lioness Leaders will help girls and young females to become stronger, more confident and more connected to their community. This in turn will make Stratford a more inclusive and inspiring place to live. Our project will be supported by London Stadium Learning, an education provision in the London Stadium an iconic inspirational location. A space that belongs to them.

Dan Ryland1 year ago Many residents across Newham have told us they do not feel safe walking home at night, using local parks, or travelling on public transport. Only 3 in 10 residents feel safe after dark (Newham Council consultation). Women and girls in particular face harassment, poor lighting and intimidating routes.Safer Newham is a resident-led project using technology and community action to make our borough safer. We will launch a free mobile app and workshops to give residents the tools to feel safer and take action.The app will provide: Safest routes so people can avoid dark or unsafe areas. One-tap reporting of harassment, unsafe lighting or anti-social behaviour, with data shared with the Council and local police. Prevention resources including training and campaigns such as Respect Her Journey and White Ribbon UK’s #AllMenCan. Alongside the app, we will run: Two self-defence workshops for women and girls. Two allyship workshops for men and boys to challenge harassment and promote respect. Our goal is simple: to reduce fear of crime, improve confidence in using public spaces, and create a stronger partnership between residents, the Council and the police.

Ellie Lister1 year ago School 21 will open its doors once a month to become a lively Saturday Marketplace – a place where local families and neighbours can come together, access services and support in one place, and connect with one another. What will it look like? That’s for Stratford residents to help decide. From early conversations and consultation, people have said they’d like a space with free healthy food, children’s activities, health and wellbeing support, and stalls run by local groups. Most importantly, it will be welcoming, safe, and open to everyone.The Marketplace will be co-led by a Community Board of local parents, residents and young people, so that it reflects what matters most to Stratford families. It’s about creating a trusted space where people feel they belong, where support is easier to find, and where neighbours can build pride in their area.We know this can work – the Old Kent Road Family Zone at Surrey Square Primary School in Southwark has already shown that Marketplaces like this improve health, reduce isolation, and give people opportunities to volunteer and build skills.

Anna Chapman1 year ago Led by Jaiden, a young person living in Chobham Manor, the Content Creation Saturday Club will focus on Esports. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn about the Gaming Industry, one of the fastest growing across the world, beyond playing games in their bedrooms. Over 20 Saturday mornings (run in two courses), they will design a new Game and the different ways to promote it. As young leaders, already engaged in this world, they will help participants to build skills needed. Students will learn how to be camera operators, sound engineers, directors and producers to create their own high quality content to be shared and gain feedback from industry professionals. They will visit the College of Esports under the Velodrome to try out professional equipment, go to Gaming Festivals to meet pioneers in film, view TV and social media and receive training from industry professionals. They will be empowered through the power of media reaching thousands of other young people who will be encouraged to engage in content creation and other positive activities that will increase their employability. They will understand that the Park belongs to them, including the free courses at London Stadium Learning, and events in the Olympic Park should be enjoyed beyond Westfield Shopping Centre. MD KHAIRUL ISLAM1 year ago Food, cloth, shelter, education, and medicine are the basic needs of humans and among them, humans cannot live without food; yet, many people are devoid of these very basic necessities of life. The homeless persons do not have a permanent shelter to live in, they lack the financial capability to buy food, let alone avail themselves of the other basic needs. The rationality of the ProjectOne study shows the number of homeless persons in the UK has jumped from 219000 in 2019 to 274000 by the end of 2021, also cost of living crisis 2022 to still now reflecting the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis on job cuts and lower-income of people, not being able to afford food and accommodation. The children and elderly persons of the families of the low-income families are suffering more and hence, a project has been planned to distribute free food among the homeless persons. However, this requires the contribution of the people, who earn well so that they can help people in distress. Food Collection, Storage, and Transportation· Food will be collected from approved halal-certified restaurants and individual donors.· Collected food will be stored in insulated and sanitized food containers to maintain temperature and prevent contamination.· Transportation will be carried out using dedicated vehicles, ensuring food remains safe, hygienic, and appropriately packaged during delivery. Food Safety and Hygiene Measures· All volunteers handling food will follow strict hygiene protocols, including hand sanitization and wearing gloves/masks.· Food will be checked for quality before distribution, ensuring that it is fresh, uncontaminated, and safe to eat.· Containers and storage areas will be regularly cleaned and sanitized.Safeguarding Volunteers and Recipients· Volunteers will be trained in safeguarding policies and basic first aid.· Interaction with recipients will follow safe distancing and respectful engagement protocols.· we will wear visual "hi-vest" (high-visibility vest) or PPE used to protect workers from various risks · Vulnerable individuals will be treated with care, and any concerns will be immediately reported to the project supervisor.Identifying and Reaching Beneficiaries· Beneficiaries will be identified through coordination with local shelters, community organizations, and outreach programs.· Distribution points and timings will be communicated through community networks to ensure those in need are reached efficiently.

Daniel Scott1 year ago We have a record of running great events, building relationships and growing change on the Mill Meads estate and within the local neighbourhood in E15. This project builds on this - enabling us to run Community Outreach and 6 Neighbourhood events in 2026-7. Each event will have food and drink, crafts, sports, competitions and will bring neighbours together. Listening will play a major role at these events as we talk together about what we want to see in our community.Out of these events and listening, we will start 2 local monthly groups. The first 'Tea and Talk' will support those with a sense of loneliness and isolation, or just those who want to meet their neighbours in an informal setting. Through activities and communication we will enable a sense of participation and belonging.Secondly, 'Eco champions' will facilitate local families who want to work together to better care for our neighbourhood. Running litter picking, gardening, local art projects and more they will help create a place we can all be proud of, responding to issues identified through our listening. Culminating in a campaign for the whole neighbourhood to improve the place where we live!

Jonathan Silman1 year ago Community Sport Academies- Football Unites is a community-based project that uses the power of sport to improve health, wellbeing, and opportunities for young people and families in Newham.We know that many families face financial barriers that prevent children and young people from joining sports clubs. Without affordable access, too many miss out on the health, confidence, and social benefits of being active. Our project will remove those barriers by offering some free and low-cost sports sessions right in the heart of the community.Young people will not only take part, but also lead. They will help design, organise, and deliver activities, gaining confidence, coaching qualifications, and pathways into volunteering and employment. This ensures the project reflects their needs and creates real opportunities for growth.By making sport accessible to everyone, we aim to:Improve health and wellbeing.Reduce inequality.Build stronger, safer communities.Create opportunities for young people to thrive.With your support, Community Sport Academies will bring affordable, inclusive sport to Newham, helping our neighbourhoods become healthier, more connected, and better places to live.

Tania Udaondo1 year ago This project aims to transform a previously neglected, car-dominated space in our neighbourhood into a greener, safer, and more welcoming community area. We will plant large trees in existing planters and green areas, enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and creating shade. Local residents, volunteers, and children from nearby schools will be involved in ongoing maintenance, including watering, weeding, litter picking, and small-scale planting, fostering a sense of pride, ownership, and responsibility.The improvements will make the space safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for all, while encouraging outdoor activity and strengthening community connections. The project also aims to inspire future community-led initiatives, empowering residents and schools to continue improving the neighbourhood together.

Harry Gregson1 year ago We will deliver free immigration legal representation to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers (RAS) in Newham who would otherwise be unable to afford/access support. Our project will help migrants regularise/improve their immigration status on all legal grounds, this in turn will enable migrants to escape anxiety around detention/deportation, assert their rights to benefits, statutory healthcare, further education and feel settled in the community. We provide full legal representation (never one-off advice). This ensures we address the root-causes of clients’ crises, rather than passing them from agency-to-agency. As an IAA level-3 accredited charity, we can conduct appeals, this means we can overturn wrongful refusals, and only conclude clients’ cases once they’ve reached the best possible outcome. This funding will help us support Newham-based migrants one day per week. Our advisor/solicitor will help clients: Register children as citizens/naturalise as citizens Regularise their status by applying for leave to remain based on their private/family life. Renew status (and apply for fee waivers as applicable) for migrants on the 10-year route/other long-term settlement routes. Request change-of-conditions; so those with no recourse to public funds can access benefits. Apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) and request discretionary fee waivers so poor/destitute clients can avoid fees. Apply for asylum/navigate the asylum process. Conduct appeals to overturn wrongful refusals. Submit late EUSS applications for European nationals and their family members. Register their eVisas (so they can prove their status) We will also refer destitute clients to RAMFEL’s foodbank, ensuring they never go hungry whilst awaiting status/benefits. Similarly, RAS-clients experience asylum-housing, benefit/income and other issues will be referred to our destitution casework service (subject to capacity).

YOUSUF PESHAVARIA1 year ago We are a group of local residents from Worland Road and Maiden Road who want to transform Airedale Walk (also known as Worland Road Alley) into a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space for everyone.At present, the alley suffers from poor lighting, graffiti, litter, and serious hygiene problems such as public urination and defecation. This makes it unpleasant and unsafe, even though it is a main route used daily by families, commuters, and older residents.Our project will: Install AI-driven colour-changing 💡LED lighting that celebrates Newham’s diversity throughout the year, adapting to festivals such as Black History Month, Bonfire Night, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Diwali, Easter, Eid, Hanukkah, Halloween, Holi, Nowruz, Passover, Ramadan, St George’s Day, Thai Pongal, Vaisakhi, Windrush Day, and more — making the alley a living canvas of community pride. Commission a local artist to paint a “HOME” artwork at the entrance, creating pride and belonging. Fit two anti-urination trays in problem corners to improve hygiene. By tackling antisocial behaviour and adding creativity and light, we want to make the alley a place residents can feel proud of. It’s a project for everyone in Newham who has ever tasted a dish that reminded them of home, of childhood, or of someone they’ve lost.We will run weekly cooking and storytelling sessions where local residents come together to share traditional recipes and the memories behind them. These sessions will lead to a beautiful community cookbook, a Facebook page full of recipes, stories, and healthy eating tips, and new friendships across generations and cultures.This project is about belonging, healing, and pride. Robyn Wilson1 year ago Discover Children’s Story Centre is based on Stratford High Street. We offer play, learning and storytelling for children aged 0-11, with immersive exhibitions and sensory storytelling performances based on bestselling children’s books. We have two beautiful Story Worlds and a Story Garden where children can play and explore freely, with no limits to where their imaginations can take them.Now, we’re starting a new chapter. Next year, we will be transforming our centre with an incredible new facility for families in our community: a 0-2s Hands-On Play Gallery. Based on an Enchanted Garden, our new Play Gallery will feature beautiful, sensory-rich features to spark curiosity and support early learning. We have designed this magical space to help the youngest members of our community build confidence, imagination and connection through movement, touch and play. It’s part of our ongoing mission to make Discover a place where all children can learn, grow and thrive.We are currently in the final stages of fundraising to make our dream for this new Play Gallery possible. Our aim is to empower people to have a voice and make a real difference to their lives. We do this by speaking for them when they cannot and support them to speak for themselves when they are able to do so.We promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion through Advocacy and empowerment for and behalf of vulnerable individuals and families suffering or likely to be at risk of suffering discrimination in our community especially on the grounds of race, age, disability, mental health, gender or sexual orientation e.g. LGBTQ+ to achieve their wellbeing outcome under the Care Act 2014.We aim to increase the confidence of individuals and families by empowering, supporting them to achieve and sustain equality and empowerment. As a first response service we carry out initiate assessment and develop close joint working with health related agencies for example Social Prescribers, GP’s and Intermediate Care, the third sector, local housing providers and other agencies, on behalf of vulnerable individuals and families in the community.

Nadya Waisome1 year ago Sapphire Arts & Crafts CIC would like to carry out a Walkie-Talkie-Arts & Crafts project with women OVER 60's living in Newham so that they come out of isolation, loneliness, form friendships and have a healthier lifestyle. We will meet weekly for walks and refreshments in and around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park providing an ongoing 2012 Olympics legacy of health and wellbeing. Alongside walking regularly we will also deliver monthly arts and crafts sessions that are inspired by the park walks, building skills, friendships and providing a safe space for Newham residents to thrive and enjoy both nature and art. The sessions will be led by a professional art teacher and the project will culminate in an incredible art exhibition where we will celebrate the achievements of the beneficiaries involved in the project. Benefits of this project are immense, significantly impacting positively on physical, mental health and wellbeing of all those involved. The combination of walking, being outdoors, connecting with nature, other people and your inner creativity in creating artistic pieces will be incredible! This is a wonderful opportunity for our local residents and we would love to make our project proposal a reality with YOUR VOTE!
