
Your feedback
Following a second round of public consultation activities in July, we are pleased with the feedback received from neighbours and local stakeholders of the site. The consultation activities included canvassing immediate neighbours and hosting a public consultation event on site on 10th July 2021. The consultation event was attended by approximately 40 people who viewed updated plans and a scaled model to provide valuable feedback. The feedback received in general was positive with a majority of attendees welcoming the redevelopment of the site, proposed use and the overall design of the buildings. The project team are currently considering all the feedback received, which will inform the final proposals as appropriate, prior to a full planning application being submitted to the council for consideration.
Below is a summary of the feedback received at the event. The feedback has been grouped into key topics areas:
Open space/play area
Some attendees were keen to ensure the open spaces cater for all age groups of the community and are designed to be safe and secure
Parking
Some attendees explained parking is an issue in the local area. They suggested that it is important the proposals provide appropriate parking and a parking permit system is introduced.
Pedestrian routes
A number of attendees welcomed the idea of opening up the site to allow easy permeability through throughout the site. Others suggested potentially considering creating new routes linking Melford Road to Sandford Road.
Redevelopment of the site
Majority of the attendees welcomed the council’s initiative to redevelop the site and retain the Burgoynes building as part of the council’s assets
Affordable housing
Attendees welcomed the proposal to provide affordable housing in this location and welcomed the proposal to include some larger units/houses for families
Design
Attendees welcomed the overall design of the proposals. Many explained that they feel that the design will compliment and uplift the local area.
Preservation of history
A number of attendees welcomed the proposal to retain the façade of Burgoynes building, which they felt is important in preserving the site’s history.
