People Powered Places Working Group

Working groups are a group of residents, Council officers and local councillors coming together to support People Powered Places from start to end.

Each of Newham's eight Community Neighbourhood has a working group.

What working groups do

Promote People Powered Places. The working group promotes People Powered Places in their local communities and networks to make sure everyone in the local area has a chance to take part in events, applying for funding, voting or taking part in projects.

Shortlist project proposals. Members use their local knowledge to help decide which projects go through to the final round of voting, where all residents of Newham can vote.

Monitor projects. The working group helps to make sure each chosen project has a positive impact in their local area. This is called monitoring and involves taking part in monitoring visits.

Give feedback. The working group may advise on how local services can be improved based on feedback from residents. It also gives feedback about People Powered Places to help improve the process.

Meet new people. You will have the opportunity to meet people as passionate as you are about your neighbourhood. You can form new bonds with your neighbours through coming to meetings, getting involved in events and attending projects.

Who can become a working group member?

Anyone who lives, works or learns in the Community Neighbourhood and is over the age of 18 can apply, including existing working group members.

Working group members are selected based on the selection criteria and a short interview.

How do I keep in touch with what working groups do?

Working group meetings are recorded in an open and transparent way and minutes of each meeting are uploaded on this page for everyone to see or download as they wish.

You can also contact your working group by getting in touch with your Community Neighbourhood through the contact details below.
