About the Sustainable Transport Strategy

The London Borough of Newham (LBN) has developed a draft Sustainable Transport Strategy to guide the future delivery of sustainable transport schemes by the Council. This document will also inform the Local Plan Review, which sets out proposals and policy for growth in housing and employment in the Borough.

The Strategy, which has been in development since late 2022, sets out a series of recommendations designed to make it easier to use public transport, cycling and walking in Newham, as well as proposals to encourage uptake of EV vehicles, and to make the delivery of goods easier and more sustainable. We commissioned SYSTRA, an independent consultancy, to develop this strategy in collaboration with the Council.

This questionnaire is designed to be read in conjunction with the Sustainable Transport Strategy Executive Summary, as well as the longer, more detailed Strategy which can be found here. Both documents can also be found below.

About this survey

This Sustainable Transport Strategy survey is intended for anyone who is a Newham resident, or who works or travels in the borough, or who represents a business or employer in LB Newham. It is an opportunity for you to tell us what you think about the potential measures proposed to date, and to ensure that your voice is heard as we finalise the Sustainable Transport Strategy.

This survey follows on from a series of earlier engagement stages undertaken in 2022 and 2023. To date, this engagement has included a baseline survey on transport-related provisions and behaviours in the borough, as well as interviews and focus groups with residents and businesses to understand peoples’ views about potential recommendations. This engagement work has been led by consultants SYSTRA on behalf of LB Newham.

The survey will take approximately 10 minutes. As a ‘thank you’ for your feedback, you can choose to enter a prize draw for one of three prizes of £100 worth of shopping vouchers.

The survey will be available to complete until Sunday 31 March 2024.

If you have any questions about the Sustainable Transport Strategy, you can contact the Council at james.scantlebury@newham.gov.uk.
