The resident ballot
What is the resident ballot?
The resident ballot gives those living in and those with the right to return to the Phase One area the opportunity to vote on whether or not they are in favour of the regeneration and restoration of their estate.
The ballot paper will ask you to vote “Yes” or “No” on the following question: “Are you in favour of the regeneration proposals for the Custom House Phase One area?”.
Who is eligible to vote in the ballot?
In accordance with Greater London Authority (GLA) guidance, the resident ballot for the regenerated area is open to residents aged 16+ who meet the following criteria:
■ Social tenants (including those with secure, assured, flexible or introductory tenancies) named as a tenant on a tenancy agreement dated on or before the date. The landlord offer is published. This means that you need to be a signatory to your secure tenancy agreement.
■ Resident leaseholders or freeholders who have been living in their homes as their only or principal home for at least one year prior to the date the landlord offer is published and are named on the lease title for their property. This means that you need to be a signatory to the leasehold for your property.
■ Any resident whose principal home is within the regenerated area and who has been on the Council’s housing register for at least one year prior to the publication of the landlord offer document, irrespective of their current tenure.
What will happen if residents vote “Yes”?
We will continue to co-produce the designs with you to prepare a planning application for the Phase One area. The Council will continue to work closely with residents after this decision to ensure you remain involved in the detailed design and delivery process.
What will happen if residents vote “No”?
The Council will not be able to build the new homes as suggested in the current masterplan proposals.
What are the key documents I should be looking out for in order to vote?
Eligible voters will receive the following documents through their door:
■ Registration letter – residents who are eligible to vote will be named in the registration letter. Residents who think they should be able to vote and are not named in the letter have been given the opportunity to register. For anyone who has not received a registration letter, please contact Civica Election Services’ support team: support@cesvotes.com or 020 8889 9203
■ Custom House Phase One Landlord Offer – this document provides you with information on the regeneration proposals and your housing offer.
■ Voting pack – eligible voters will be able to vote on whether or not they are in favour of the regeneration proposals by telephone, post, online or text.
