Households in temporary accommodation

January 19, 2022 - January 20, 2022

This section applies to residents who have been living in temporary accommodation in the Custom House Phase One area since at least 7 November 2021 (a year before the landlord offer was published).

Will I be compensated for my move?

You will receive reasonable disturbance costs resulting from your move.

When my housing need is reassessed, will the Council still provide me with a new home?

Anyone who has been living in temporary accommodation in Custom House since at least 7 November 2021 (a year before the landlord offer was published) will be guaranteed a secure tenancy in the regenerated area.

What types of tenancies will temporary households receive?

Residents living in temporary accommodation will receive a secure council tenancy.

What is the process for moving from a non-sescure tenancy to a secure tenancy?

The Council’s Housing Team will contact residents individually to guide them through the process of signing their secure tenancies when the time comes for them to be rehoused.

If my block is to be retrofitted, am I able to stay in the same home after the work has been done?

Due to the extent of work needed to retrofit a property, tenants and homeowners will not be able to stay or return to their current home. Instead, you will be entitled to a new home in accordance with the housing offer contained in the landlord offer.

How much rent will I be charged in one of the new homes?

You will be required to pay London Affordable Rent, which is set by the GLA. London Affordable Rent is classified as a genuinely affordable rent which is below the Local Housing Allowance.
