Preventing Type 2 Diabetes: Help Shape a Healthier Newham
We're working with Newham residents to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by supporting healthy living.
We are focusing on three key areas: maintaining a healthy weight, staying active, and improving mental wellbeing.
Together, we'll explore self-care strategies, community-led opportunities, and commissioned services to co-design practical, community-driven solutions.

We know that type 2 diabetes affects our communities more than others, and we want to work with Newham residents to find better ways to support healthy living. We’re focusing on three key areas:
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Staying physically active
- Mental wellbeing to support both of the above
We’re exploring three ways to reduce risk:
- Self-care – helping people take care of their own health
- Community opportunities – enabling activities within communities
- Commissioned services – programmes provided by the Council and NHS
