With hearing loss on the rise, the need to raise awareness and foster inclusivity has never been more urgent. Our mission is to create a community where Deaf and hearing people can live, learn, and grow together in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.Deafroots is a Deaf-led organisation based in Newham, dedicated to empowering both Deaf and hearing residents through advocacy, education, and inclusion. Our wellbeing workshops at Stratford Library offer a combination of interactive activities, confidence-building training, social events, and collaborative partnerships with local organisations—all designed to promote greater community cohesion and awareness. However, we cannot achieve this vision alone. We need your support to make this vital work possible. In a competitive voting environment, your vote can make all the difference. By supporting our initiative, you are helping to create a more inclusive, accessible, and connected Newham for everyone. Voting for Deafroots is not just a vote for a programme—it is a vote for a community that values and celebrates diversity. When you vote for us, you are endorsing:
A stronger sense of connection between Deaf and hearing individuals.
Accessible, inclusive spaces where everyone can come together to learn, engage, and support one another.
A future where all members of our community—regardless of hearing ability—can take part fully in social, educational, and community life.
This is your opportunity to actively contribute to a healthier, safer, and more connected Newham. By casting your vote, you will be helping to remove barriers, reduce isolation, and foster greater understanding between Deaf and hearing residents.Together, we can build a community where everyone belongs. It starts with your vote. Our project addresses three Community Neighbourhood priorities: Health & Wellbeing, Community, Development & Participation, and Community Safety.Health & Wellbeing:Many deaf residents in Newham experience isolation & low self-esteem due to inaccessible services, limited awareness among providers, and a lack of inclusive local activities. Our workshops will bring deaf& hearing participants together for interactive activities such as healthy eating sessions, exercise classes, mental health awareness games, and role-play scenarios. These engaging, practical activities will promote healthier lifestyles, build skills, share information, improve confidence, and encourage social interaction. By witnessing organisations take steps to improve accessibility, deaf participants feel valued, recognised, & more included in the wider community. At the same time, participating organisations gain knowledge, skills, & practical experience needed to engage confidently with deaf residents, to create lasting improvements in service provision.Community Development & Participation:The project creates opportunities for deaf & hearing communities to come together, learn from each other, & share skills and ideas. By involving deaf people as co-producers, it promotes leadership, empowerment, & active participation in community life. Service providers gain tools & cultural competence, which strengthens long-term community connections.Community Safety:Many deaf residents face challenges accessing safety information or contacting services. By collaborating with housing, local services, & community safety teams, the project raises awareness of Deaf needs, improves access to safety-related information, and builds trust between deaf residents and service providers.By addressing these three priorities together, the project ensures deaf residents are healthier, more connected, and safer, while organisations develop the skills to create a more inclusive & supportive community.
