Abdul Ali 1 year ago Plaistow Parkside Lions FC is a grassroots football club based in Newham, delivering free weekend sessions for young people aged 11-20. Our project aims to promote health, wellbeing, and community connection through structured football activities in Plaistow Park.We provide a safe, inclusive space where youth can build confidence, discipline and teamwork while staying physically active. Sessions are led by experienced volunteers and mentors who support personal development both on and off the pitch.The project also activates public space by bringing positive energy into Plaistow Park, encouraging safer and more inclusive use of local green areas. We plan to expand our impact by hiring better - maintained pitches and organising local tournaments that showcase youth talent and foster pride across Newham.This initiative responds directly to community feedback and aligns with Newham Council's priorities for youth empowerment, public space activation, and improved wellbeing. We invite residents to support our mission and help us grow a stronger, healthier, and more united neighbourhood - one kick at a time.

Mamataj Begum1 year ago The Newham 46th (Phoenix) Cubs and Scouts project is designed to give young people aged 8 to 14 the chance to experience the outdoors, learn practical skills and grow in confidence through subsidised camping trips and outdoor excursions. Many families in Newham face financial and social barriers that limit access to enriching experiences beyond the borough.This project addresses that barrier by removing obstacles to learning, growing and adventure. Trips could include hiking, camping, outdoor cooking or shelter building which will build resilience, problem solving skills and independence. The young people involved will also shape the trips and even lead on parts of it, supported by Scout leaders and volunteers. This will allow young people to take responsibility and practise leadership.Beyond individual growth, the project is also about building community. Parents and carers are encouraged to volunteer and share skills, strengthening connections and creating a sense of shared ownership. We will focus on local venues, and use those spaces for hubs of learning, connection, and pride.With this funding, we will try to make transformative experiences and adventures accessible to all.

Mohammed Nobab Uddin1 year ago East hands charity is looking to provide Newham residents the opportunity to play Badminton each week at the local Leisure Centre. We are proposing to hold 6 , seven week long sessions over the year, with 2 sessions aimed at women, 2 for the over 50's and 2 for youngsters aged 8-17 years.We will provide a coach and trained volunteer staff, all of whom have had a Safeguarding disclosure check, to teach you the necessary skills , and to have some fun, as well as learning about things like, diet, nutrition, and exercise. It won’t cost you anything to take part, just a commitment to turn up for 2 hours each week for 7 weeks.You don't need to have played before , or physically fit, just a desire to have a go. Hopefully, you will make new friends and get a craving for more sports activity in the future.

Together, we turn stress into stability.The project creates a safe, welcoming space where residents can learn simple, effective ways to budget,manage household costs, and plan ahead with confidence. Through one-to-one support and group sessions, we break down the stigma around money worries and provide tools that are easy to understand and apply in daily life.Our workshops focus on topics such as prioritising bills, managing debt safely, reducing unnecessary spending, and exploring opportunities to save. We also connect residents to trusted local services for additional specialist support when needed. By increasing knowledge and building confidence, we help people not only overcome immediate financial pressures but also develop long-term skills to stay in control of their money. The project is especially valuable for families and individuals facing the cost-of-living crisis, offering reassurance that they are not alone.With the right support, every resident has the chance to move from financial stress to financial resilience, creating stability at home and brighter opportunities for the future.

Joseph Huang1 year ago Plaistow Street Gardens- Tunmarsh Lane, is an initiative to improve the local environment. By bringing greenery out of parks and into the streetscape. Change the community's perception of how greenery can benefit public space, beyond parks. The streetscape becomes a valued asset resulting in a more attractive and cared for environment for all. The proposed green space becomes a place for residents to contribute, garden together, promote neighbourliness and prevent anti-social behaviour. The chosen site is now the junction of Tunmarsh Lane and Upperton Road West. The scheme enlarges the planting area and works with existing trees. Its aims are to reinvigorate the site with new planting and improve pedestrian access around the immediate area with an altered paving scheme.

Kate Mansfield1 year ago Curwen is a large Primary School serving a diverse community. Our playground has no green space, and is mainly concrete. We have granted land adjoining our playground; however it has been left for many years and is overgrown and inaccessible. Families tell us they do not use our local parks due to anti-social behaviour and safety concerns. We want our children to lead on the development of this area into a safe, calming green space for children to access both during and outside the school day. Families will grow fruit and vegetables, better understanding seasonality and healthy eating. We have many pupils with SEND, and anxiety and mental health difficulties are rising. We know time in green space is hugely beneficial in keeping children and adults regulated and positive. Our community garden would provide a valuable calm space in a busy school environment for those children that need it, and community members outside the school day. This would be a shared space, and we want everyone to feel invested in its success. Our community will help us to redevelop the space into a safe and productive green area which can be used for many years to come.

The project addresses the growing need for accessible mental health support by providing safe, inclusive spaces where participants can build resilience, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.Through a combination of professional counselling, workshops, peer-support groups, and holistic wellbeing sessions, participants will gain practical strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and life challenges. Special sessions for youth will focus on mental health awareness, coping skills, and empowerment, helping young people navigate pressures and develop a positive mindset.The project also integrates nutrition and lifestyle guidance, recognizing the link between physical health and mental wellbeing. Activities will take place in community centres and public spaces, encouraging engagement and fostering a sense of belonging.Empower Her Mind aims to reduce stigma around mental health, strengthen social networks, and create sustainable support structures. By nurturing the wellbeing of women and youth, the project contributes to a safer, more connected, and resilient community. The initiative will leave a lasting impact by equipping participants with tools, resources, and peer connections that extend beyond the project’s duration.

Mergim Gashi1 year ago Gloves Up Newham is a community boxing project designed to give young people in Newham free access to sport, fitness, and personal development opportunities. Every Friday evening, I run structured boxing sessions where young people can get active, build confidence, and learn new skills in a safe and supportive environment.Growing up in Newham myself, I know how difficult it can be for families to afford gym memberships or club fees. This project removes those barriers by providing free coaching and equipment, so every young person has the chance to take part regardless of their background.Boxing is more than just fitness — it teaches discipline, resilience, and teamwork, while also improving mental health and reducing stress. Through this project, I hope to create a positive outlet that not only benefits individuals, but also strengthens our wider community.With support, Gloves Up Newham can continue to grow, reach more young people, and become a lasting community hub that inspires healthier, stronger, and more connected futures in Newham.

Rose Small1 year ago Healthy Mind is a youth-focused wellbeing project designed to support young people aged 12–25 in managing stress, anxiety, and the pressures of everyday life. Many young people in our community face barriers such as financial hardship, digital exclusion, social isolation, and limited access to mental health support. Healthy Mind responds to these challenges by creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people can share experiences, learn coping strategies, and build supportive networks.The project combines face-to-face and digital activities to ensure maximum accessibility. In-person workshops will focus on resilience-building, mindfulness, creative expression, and peer mentoring. Digital tools such as online drop-in sessions, wellbeing apps, and social media engagement will extend the project’s reach and appeal to young people who may not engage with traditional services.Healthy Mind is youth-led, with young ambassadors, peer mentors, and digital champions actively contributing to design and delivery. By empowering young people to lead, the project promotes ownership, leadership skills, and long-term sustainability.The project aims to directly engage 60–70 young people, with a wider reach of at least 150 through digital resources. Ultimately, Healthy Mind will reduce stigma, strengthen resilience, and create a healthier, more connected generation.

Stephen Alao1 year ago The project is about establishing a table tennis club, targeting the over 50s in the community with the aim of creating an activity that would promote the health and well being of all the participants in and around Plaistow environ. The club will welcome every individual with all abilities, the project will encourage and promote equality, diversity and inclusiveness. The main purpose of this table tennis club is to help individuals who may be facing isolation among other things like health conditions to create a platform where they can meets with other people in the neighbourhood with the aim of socialising amongst themselves and at the same time being active in a sports that will help to keep fit both physically and mentally.The organiser shares a personal story. " I used to be 120 Kg and diabetic, but by keeping fit playing table tennis twice a week has really helped me to lose the weight and maintain my current weight.

Emily Harrington1 year ago This project is designed to support primary school children at New City Primary through two important initiatives: New Shared Reading Books Research by the National Literacy Trust shows that children’s enjoyment of reading is at an all-time low. By purchasing a wide range of exciting, diverse, and age-appropriate books, we want to spark curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of reading. Shared reading books will benefit pupils across the school, giving them more opportunities to discover stories that reflect their lives and open doors to new worlds. New Play Equipment Play is vital for children’s development, helping them build confidence, social skills, and friendships across year groups. This project will fund new equipment such as giant Connect 4, a games wall, soft balls, skipping ropes, and parachutes. These resources will enhance playtimes, encourage teamwork, and ensure children have active, enjoyable breaks and PE lessons every day. Grace Kenneth-Jimah1 year ago Project Brief: EduCaketion CIC – Afterschool Baking ClubWe are excited to launch an Afterschool Baking Club in Newham that combines fun, creativity, and life skills for children and young people. The club will run weekly during term-time between March 2026 and February 2027 and will be open to all local children, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).Through baking, children will learn practical skills such as measuring, following instructions, and kitchen safety, while also developing confidence, teamwork, and creativity. Each session will give children the chance to make something they can proudly take home and share with their families.The project will: Provide an inclusive, safe, and supportive space for over 100 children across Newham. Offer adapted equipment and one-to-one support so that SEN children can fully participate. Involve parents, volunteers, and young people as peer mentors, strengthening community connections. End with a family celebration and recipe booklet, showcasing what the children have achieved. We believe this project will make Newham a better place to live by supporting young people, promoting wellbeing, and building stronger family and community bonds.

Hattie Ryan1 year ago In England, one in five children face mental health problems, and half of all disorders are established by age 14, making early intervention essential. We therefore launched Time, a drop-in and group-work hub in Newham for 10 to 25-year-olds experiencing low wellbeing, caring responsibilities, poverty, parental mental illness or addiction, and domestic violence. We are applying for £20,000 to fund a part-time Positive Activities Coordinator between the 1st March 2026 until the 28th February 2027. The coordinator will lead on creating and delivering a youth activities plan tailored to participants’ needs. Our vision is for the coordinator to connect young people to the wider community. They will collaborate with Voluntary and Community Sector organisations, map existing provision, and build bridges from our hub into community spaces. The coordinator will run workshops both at Time and at partner venues, ensuring sessions take place in safe, familiar settings. Over the 12-month period, funding will support 3 to 5 sessions each week, including arts and crafts, lyric writing, sports and games. These activities will strengthen social cohesion in the community, encourage creativity, teamwork, and resilience, providing early support to those at risk of social isolation and low mental health and wellbeing. The funding will create a more connected borough where vulnerable young people can thrive.

Our project will deliver a series of 8 free workshops in local libraries for girls aged 5-12, blending science experiments, storytelling, and art to spark curiosity, boost confidence, and foster a lifelong love of learning. The program also includes a guided visit to the Science Museum and an outdoor nature exploration session.Each workshop will be fun, inclusive, and interactive—encouraging girls to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths), collaborate with peers, and build practical skills they can apply both in school and everyday life. Parents will be invited to join selected sessions, supporting family bonding and intergenerational learning.By the end of the project, we aim to reach over 100 girls and family members, increase engagement with science, strengthen parent-child and inter-family connections, and create a sustainable, youth-led learning network. Whether you’re navigating the joys of labour or learning how to swaddle without losing your mind, I’ve got you covered!Our project delivers comprehensive antenatal and postnatal classes designed to support families through pregnancy, birth, and the early stages of parenthood. While the NHS provides some sessions, these are often limited and unable to cover topics in depth. Private courses do offer more detailed preparation, but they are costly and out of reach for many families. Our initiative bridges this gap by offering affordable, in-depth group classes led by qualified professionals, creating a supportive space for both learning and connection.As a qualified Midwife and Nurse for over 10 years, I will deliver classes covering pregnancy health, birth preparation, maternal recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding, and emotional well-being. mark blake1 year ago **Plaistow Together**, delivered by Rights and Equalities in Newham (REIN), is a community-led initiative supporting children, young people and families in Plaistow through three 10-week programmes:- A youth programme offering engaging evening activities, including a residential weekend, focusing on life skills, communication skills, building confidence and improving feelings of self-worth.- A cooking and healthy living programme for parents and children, culminating in a community cookout. - A Parent Carer Champions Network (PCCN) for SEND families, prioritising Plaistow residents.**Programme Outcomes:** Youth participants gain confidence, teamwork skills, and access safe, structured alternatives to street socialising. Parent/child sessions promote joint learning, stronger family bonds, and practical nutritional advice. The project targets 150–200 learners and will track progress through pre- and post-course assessments, engagement metrics, and participant feedback. By combining practical learning with digital resources, the project empowers participants to improve knowledge, confidence, and active participation in their communities.

Over the course of six immersive sessions, participants will take to the streets of Newham—camera or phone in hand—to capture honest, everyday moments that speak to the lived experiences and silent struggles of the community.Open to all residents, from the young to the elderly, the project invites individuals to document their surroundings and share the unique stories unfolding around them. At the culmination of the sessions, each participant will select three of their most meaningful images to be professionally printed and displayed for public viewing. Alongside these visuals, participants will present the personal connections between their photographs and mental wellbeing, creating a powerful dialogue between image, emotion, and lived reality.Step out. Our Parenting for Wellbeing groups will offer you a safe space to connect with other parents so you feel less alone and equip you with parenting strategies that will last through your parenting years.

Its core purpose is to create a welcoming, non-intimidating, and supportive environment where young women can discover the joy of physical activity, build lasting self-confidence, and develop healthy lifestyle habits.Recognizing that traditional sports programs can often feel competitive and exclusionary to newcomers, Genesis Futsal is built on a foundation of inclusivity and personal development rather than elite competition. The project removes the common barriers to entry by requiring no prior experience or specific athletic skill. The sessions are structured to be fun, social, and skills-focused, emphasizing teamwork, participation, and personal progress over winning and losing.The core objectives of the project are twofold. Firstly, it aims to improve physical health and well-being by providing a regular, enjoyable form of exercise through the fast-paced and accessible game of futsal. This helps participants build foundational fitness, coordination, and an appreciation for an active life.Secondly, and just as importantly, Genesis Futsal is dedicated to fostering mental and emotional resilience. Mikayl Mehtab1 year ago Men In Sheds in Newham were awarded the Well Newham Award at the 2024 Newham Civic Awards for their significant contributions to combating loneliness and isolation among men in the borough by providing community spaces to connect, converse, and create.Men in Shed - Breaking Grounds is a registered charity in Plaistow offering safe, therapeutic spaces for men aged 18+ to connect, share skills, and recover from loneliness and poor mental health.We run a Workshop Shed for bike repairs and woodwork, a Social Shed for conversation and companionship, and a two-year programme of coach trips for residents, service users, and members. These outings build brotherhood, reduce isolation, and promote recovery.The Shed also donates refurbished bikes and wheelchair to residents and charities, promotes cycling, and strengthens sustainable lifestyles. It directly addresses Newham priorities for health, wellbeing, safety, and environment.
