We all have different alignments, we would like to offer an opportunity to have an inclusive, inter-generational offer to fitness and having fun. Most people have health issues such as sprains, pulled muscles, poor joint health, mobility issues caused by old age. would like a 40 weeks of health and wellbeing fitness sessions with 10 weeks rotation on the different types of exerciseChair based ZumbaYogaSalsa Fit

Newham Co-Create Admin 3 years ago Our project is about bringing residents in Hamara Ghar and the surrounding community together by renovating the existing kitchen facilities that can then be used by residents and outside organisations for the purpose of providing cooking facilities for various events to improve community cohesion, health, wellbeing and happiness.May 2024 update:The project for the Hamara Ghar kitchen has been delayed whilst we await confirmation of the contractors and implementation plans for the wider Hamara Ghar modernisation works. Once these are signed off then the works will then commence on the kitchen refurbishment which is hope will be during the summer months. The works are expected to take less than a month once started. We look forward to making progress with this in order to bring a wider range of activities to the building to take advantage of the new facilities.November 2024 update: • The works have begun and the Hamara Ghar communal kitchen has been cleared of the older items.• New items have started to arrive including a cooker, fridge, dishwasher and sink.• Residents are excited to see that it is all starting to come together and hopeful that a Christmas Party using it may be possible.28.11.2024: The refurbishment has now been completed

Syed Haque3 years ago The project is focused on providing guidance and learning on how to eat healthy, with the cost of living crisis in mind. We have a lot of residents who are struggling with the cost of living crisis and to fuel themselves with the correct foods to keep them healthy.With the cost of living crisis in mind, making better informed choices is becoming challenging. Even though the funding is limited, this programme would give opportunities to residents to think more creatively. With proper guidance and support from qualified practitioners, we aim to prevent and reduce the likelihood of people going hungry, prevent wastage, think about new tasty and healthy recipes and support the prevention of diabetes.

Syed Haque3 years ago THE “COMMUNITY OUTDOOR WELLBEING PROJECT” WILL COMPRISE OF A MIX OF RECREATIONAL, SPORT & PHYSICAL WELLBEING ACTIVITIES THAT WILL BE DELIVERED IN PLAISTOW PARK. TO MITIGATE AGAINST INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS, SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES WILL BE DELIVERED INDOOR AT THE CENTRE, WHICH IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. THIS WILL BE AN ADDED VALUE TO THE PROJECT AS IT IS LINKED TO SOME EXISTING INDOOR ACTIVITIES CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE AT THE CENTRE AT NO EXTRA COST, THUS MAKING THE PROJECT VALUE FOR MONEY. ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWINGS: 1). OUTDOOR TABLE TENNIS: SECURED FIXED TABLE TENNIS BOARD. THE PROCUREMENT & INSTALLATION WILL BE DONE THROUGH THE COUNCIL. THIS WILL ENSURE THAT ALL HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS ARE MET, THAT THE EXPENDITURE IS MAXIMISED, OCCASIONED BY ECONOMIES OF SCALE OF THE COUNCIL'S BUYING POWER). 2). SPORTS (FOOTBALL) - USING MOVABLE FOOTBALL POSTS THAT ARE FOLDABLE & CAN BE SECURELY STORED AWAY. WE SHALL WORK WITH PLAISTOW NEIGHBOURHOOD & THE PARKS TEAM TO SECURE NECESSARY PERMITS. May 2024 update:Table tennis installation is complete in Plaistow Park.

Syed Haque3 years ago ASK are very passionate about mental health and wellbeing due to our own challenges and life experiences. ASK started as a participation group, and that when our voices started to be heard. Co-Production is very important to ASK members and we are very much involved in making changes around stigma and discrimination and have been part of the Forum from the beginning. By educating people regularly we can help people from diverse backgrounds to have a better understanding what Mental health is and how to take care of their mental health wellbeing and that of their loved ones. We will be continuing to support the Public Health Strategy – 50 Step to a Healthier Borough and move Newham towards the Mental Health friendly borough that Newham is aiming for. Sheba Choudhury3 years ago PSBL aim to work with local residents and the larger community to combat fear and anxiety and increase confidence in women and young girls in the hope that it will aid them with the right tools to support with their mental health and wellbeing as well as being confident enough to protect themselves in a compromised situation.We have been working and researching through pilot initiatives the importance of such sessions. The project aims to empower individuals in our community with fundamental self-defence techniques. We have listened to feedback from our users and evolved by meeting the wider objective of one of Metropolitan Police (Safer Neighbourhood) priority ‘keeping women and young girls safe in the streets’ We have teamed up with the Community Police through our work to advise and answer any questions bought about through this project to ensure we are delivering a much more in depth, impactful sessions. We want to serve our community ensuring they feel safe, this project fits in to at least two of the council’s priority- Health and Wellbeing and Community Safety.

Kate Mansfield3 years ago June UpdateOur Family Bike Club has been successfully running on Fridays after school. We have a very mixed group that attends in terms of age, demographics and gender and we are delighted that we have such a big turnout each week. We have a mixture of children that bring their own bikes or scooters and just want the freedom to ride, as well as those that borrow our school bikes or scooters. All are welcome! On average, 2 children are helped to ride each week and within the space of an hour go from not being able to control a pedal bike to riding off into the sunset!As a parent commented, “It is such a relief to have somewhere safe for them to ride.” Many parents have commented on anti-social behaviour in parks meaning they don’t feel safe to let their children ride off on bikes or scooters, however being in the controlled environment of the school playground alleviates these concerns.We are delighted to have planned a Community Cycle on the Greenway on Saturday 29th June 2024. The more the merrier so do come along! Details on the flyer attached.Initial ProposalIn the past we have run a 'Family Bike Club' after school for our children and their family members to take part in. Sadly due to cuts in funding we have not been able to run this due to not having adequate budget to repair/maintain/replace the bikes or to pay school staff overtime to run this. This club is always fully inclusive of children of all ages and abilities, including those with special educational needs. Having a session within the school playground at the end of the day not only makes it easy for parents to bring their children along, but also gives them a safe space for their children to be active and have fun and to learn to ride a bike. We have balance bikes and pedal bikes and a few trikes for those that need them.By running this as a 'Family Club' all children are accompanied by a parent/carer who we also encourage to ride / learn to ride if they would like to do so.To link in with this, we also have a member of school staff who is trained to offer 'Bikeability; training to support children to both learn to ride bikes and then to ride safely on the roads. When able to be offered (again budget allowing), this does encourage children (and their families!) to both get active and to use sustainable modes of travel to and from school. We have offered this training during this academic year after successfully applying for funding, and have trained over 100 children to date. This year we came 5th in the UK in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel competition for the number of children scooting or cycling to school. Sadly the funding is not available again for next academic year, so we are unsure if we will be able to continue to afford to offer this training.We would also be interested in offering guided weekend rides to appeal to any working parents who may struggle to come along with their child/ren earlier in the day. We usually run a 'Family Bike Ride and Picnic' during our Sports Week in the summer term, and even during the school day this is very popular and encourages parents to get out with their children and realise some of the cycle-friendly routes we have available locally.

Helen Crossley3 years ago St Mary's Allotment has been growing food for families locally since 1906. Our project aims to maintain this history of gardening with the restoration of our cabin and community areas. We will improve the environment sustainably, encourage healthy activity for all, foster social inclusion and sharing of knowledge and produce, ensure safety as well as honouring treasured memories. Our 3 local schools and 2 elderly residences, food banks and community kitchens will all benefit from the updating of this fabulous community asset. Whilst the biodiversity of wildlife and soil will be nurtured for years to come.See below for an update

Liban Farah3 years ago SCK Fitness Team will run three fitness and martial arts classes per week from the new Queen's Road West Community Centre in the heart of Plaistow, for free. Our sessions will not be limited to Plaistow residents but the priority will be given to local residents if classes are oversubscribed. Tuesdays - 7pm to 8pm - Mixed Martial Arts (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Grappling) Thursdays - 7pm to 8pm - Mixed Martial Arts (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Grappling) Fridays - 7pm to 8pm - Boxing & HIIT Training (Exclusive to Women 16+) *This timetable may be subject to minor changes and is not final. We will run these sessions for 46 weeks in 2024. Taking 6 weeks of breaks for busy periods for the public such as New Years, Christmas, the two middle weeks of summer (where a lot of families are abroad), etc.

Syed Haque3 years ago The purpose of our project is to address the pressing issue of men's mental health by providing accessible, stigma-free, and evidence-based support through a series of mental health sessions. Our initiative seeks to: Raise Awareness: Increase awareness about the unique challenges that men face in seeking help for mental health issues. Reduce Stigma: Challenge and reduce the stigma associated with men's mental health struggles, encouraging open conversations and help-seeking behaviours. Provide Support: Offer a safe and supportive environment where men can share their experiences and learn practical strategies to manage their mental health effectively. Promote Resilience: Equip men with the skills and resources needed to build resilience, manage stress, and lead healthier lives. In summary, a project focused on mental health can positively impact the local area by improving the well-being of residents, reducing social problems, enhancing the workforce, strengthening community ties, reducing healthcare costs, and making the area more attractive for investment and tourism. These combined effects contribute to the overall growth and development of the local area, making it a better place to live.

For the past five years, our commitment has been to reduce isolation and empower communities by providing a safe and inspiring foundation to face adversity. We have built a strong local presence, collaborating with the Plaistow Library and local community groups, and have previously received funding from Newham Council for the organisation of events targeting suicide prevention awareness. In response to the recent UK Government Loneliness Strategy and the Newham Suicide Prevention Strategy 2023-2026, we started a strategic partnership with academics at University College London. In collaboration, we have organised educational intergenerational events with the goal of reducing loneliness, promoting mental health and empowering the most vulnerable in our communities. We have consistently contributed to improving mental health in Newham and were awarded Best East London Community Support in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Rhiain Aylward3 years ago I would like to install a custom made library dedicated to children's books. The library will be built to accommodate books in a range of different sizes to be inclusive for children of all ages. The 'take a book, leave a book' ethos of Little Free Libraries is incredibly important to help teach children the importance of sharing, alongside making reading more accessible during this cost of living crisis. Reading is a pleasure for all ages and we would love to provide more children with access to books. This will complement the existing library we have for adult books.

Marian Spiers3 years ago To run two Youth Sports Sessions a week, for young people, aged 13-19 years from a refugee seeking and migrant background .To provide football, volleyball, cricket, basketball, badminton, table tennis and pool to around 500 young people over a 9 month period.To support young people to feel less isolated and more physically and mentally healthier.Funding to cover cost of renting sports centre, 2 staff per session and healthy snacks for each session.Watch the video below to see how the project is getting on.

Syed Haque3 years ago 1. (Community Safety) we would like to request grant to get pay for First Aid for all our staff and parents. We are working with the community who have under 5's children and it is important to have this training, as it will benefit many families to deal with injuries and at times major accidents. Our staff and community will be knowledgeable and equipped with the skills and tools to deal with emergencies for the children. This will ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children. This also empowers our parents and staff when they are dealing with injuries as they feel reassured knowing how to deal with these kind of situation. Our staff are running play sessions and that will ensure that they are skilled and feel assured that they will be able to deal with accidents/incidents where arises. 2. (Environment and public spaces) we would also like to request a grant for a water dispenser on the ground floor where the children centre is situated. Currently we have no easy process for the community to access water. Parent have to request when required. We have a daily traffic flow of families through our door, as we are an early help Children centre where our community receive support for Domestic violence, early interventions, ESOL classes, Child health clinics, prenatal midwifery surgery, SEND parenting, young parents and children access the children centre from 8:30 to 4:15 Monday to Friday. At times pregnant mothers attend Children centre to see Midwife who require access to water and this can only be reached through staff members. We are a very busy Children centre especially at the reception area as parents waiting for variety of supports and services. So parents have to wait for staff members to bring the water for them. A water dispenser will ensure that the community can access water whenever they want without the need to ask a staff member to bring it from the kitchen.3. (Health and Wellbeing) ZEN garden - a calming effect garden for parents and children to support their mental wellbeing, physical and emotional development. In Newham we have poor and vulnerable families that have no access to outdoor space with play opportunities so the Zen Garden would be amazing for the children's learning and development.4.(Health and Wellbeing) We would like to get grant to buy Sensory equipment’s for both indoor and outdoor like lights, sensory water fountain flow and large garden musical cause and effect resources. We are getting a high number of families that are coming with children with additional needs. Newham has a long waiting list for children to see CDT, OH and SLT. In the interim, families attend the children's centre to attend parenting courses and EPATS sessions whilst children are in the Crèche. These equipment’s can ensure that the children are getting the right intervention with their play as these resources gets their interest up and engage. Children with additional needs require more support in settling into crèche so these sensory resources will ensure that they settle quicker and have their needs met. This will ensure parents attend the EPATS (MENCAP) sessions so that parents are equipped with the right knowledge and skills in managing with their children's needs and behaviour.
