Voluntary Community and Faith Sector organisations can apply for up to £20,000
Youth-led projects can apply for up to £10,000
Resident-led projects can apply for up to £5,000

Update for Youth-led applications

Youth-led projects must be delivered with a partner organisation. Partner organisations can apply for funding under VCFS grant, as well as supporting up to two youth-led projects.

Youth-led projects mean that children and young people aged 10 to 22 make critical decisions about the project, especially the project idea, aims and purpose. This can involve designing and managing the project, being part of budgeting decisions, delivering activities and monitoring and evaluation.

All projects must be separate and distinct, with their own application forms, aims and delivery plan.

To accommodate these changes, we have extended the deadline for youth-led applications to the 21 September.

What happens next

Once you have submitted your application, please add your project idea to Newham Co-Create here or clicking on 'Add a project' button on the top right hand side of the page. This is essential for residents to vote for your project in November.

Your application will be reviewed by the Community Neighbourhood Team. They will be in touch if there is any missing information.

Your application will be scored anonymously by Working Group members, as well as undergo a feasibility assessment by Council colleagues to ensure your project is viable.

You will receive an update on whether your project has been shortlisted for The Big Vote in October.

Yunis jeylaani8 months ago Social Resilience Programme – Youth Leadership & WellbeingThe Social Resilience Programme is a unique youth-led project in Manor Park, delivered at UMQ Community Centre, designed to tackle the real issues facing young people today.Starting in April 2026, we will run a weekly youth club offering leadership training, mentoring, and hands-on workshops. From public speaking and teamwork to calligraphy, DIY, and bike maintenance, young people will gain the skills and confidence to thrive while shaping their own futures.Crucially, the programme will address the growing crisis of nitrous oxide misuse (“balloons”). Research shows balloons are now the second most used drug among 16–24 year olds in the UK. By raising awareness and providing positive alternatives, we will help young people say NO to balloons and other destructive behaviours that harm health, wellbeing, and community safety.What makes this project different is that young people themselves will design, lead, and deliver activities, supported by youth workers and community volunteers. Our aim is to engage 40–60 young people across Manor Park, creating positive role models and building a safer, healthier, and more resilient community for everyone.Vote for us to say NO to destructive behaviour and YES to a brighter future!

Liam Dunn9 months ago The estate is witnessing a severe increase in vehicles from non-residents accessing the car parks to commit illegal activity. The estate is positioned away from the high street and the car parks are hidden behind hedges and buildings, so it has become an attractive location for people to fly-tip, deal drug, solicit sex, steal vehicles and generally hide from authorities. The residents are feeling increasingly unsafe and despair at the state of the grounds as rubbish piles up.This project is to seek council funding for the placement of security bollards on six car park entrances at Queensberry Place to increase the health, wellbeing of residents and their environment. This project has been supported by local police.

Rizwan Abhi7 months ago ‘EPIC Outdoors: Youth Leading the Way’ is a youth-led wellbeing and community empowerment project designed to improve health, build confidence, and strengthen community safety in Newham. The project will train and mentor young people to become “Walking Leaders,” equipping them with the skills to plan, organise, and deliver a series of outdoor walking events for the wider community. These young people will be supervised and supported to organise and deliver four flagship events for Newham residents: a Seaford to Eastbourne coastal walk, a cliff walk in Dover, a circular walk in the North Downs, and a community visit to Stonehenge. Coaches will be hired, which will depart from Manor Park library, and participants will travel with and enjoy the company of their neighbours.

Many young people leave school without knowing some of the everyday skills that really matter. This project will change that by offering a series of hands-on, engaging workshops designed to prepare them for the real world.Young people will learn useful life skills such as basic vehicle maintenance, DIY and home repairs, cooking healthy meals on a budget, money management, and first aid – the kind of knowledge that builds independence and confidence. They will also be introduced to modern creative and digital skills through basic coding and graphic design, opening doors to future careers.To support their journey into work and further education, we will run sessions on CV writing, interview practice, entrepreneurship, and public speaking. Me Abul Ahmed7 months ago Our DIY Workshop project has already benefitted local young people and families by providing opportunities to learn practical skills, improve wellbeing, and connect socially in a supportive environment. With the ongoing cost of living crisis putting increasing pressure on households, this project is more vital than ever. Learning to repair and reuse items not only helps families save money but also promotes independence, reduces waste, and provides a real sense of achievement.With additional funding, we will expand and enhance our workshop to reach more people and provide new opportunities. This will include three community Repair Cafés, where young people and families can learn how to fix broken household items instead of replacing them — keeping belongings in use for longer, cutting costs, and reducing environmental impact. We will also deliver an exciting “Make and Build an Electric Buggy” project, designed to inspire creativity, teamwork, and technical problem-solving. In addition, we will extend our DIY workshop beyond the youth zone to directly engage the wider community, making these opportunities more accessible and inclusive.

Many people in the community may feel isolated, especially senior residents, women at home, and those who may not have opportunities to take part in creative activities. This group will create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment where participants can relax, talk, and learn pratical skills that can also support everyday life, from repairing clothes to creating new items. The project will benefit the community by reducing social isolation, encouraging creativity, and promoting well-being. It will also create opportunities for intergenerational learning, where people of different ages and backgrounds can share skills and experiences. We are applying for funding to support the purchase of essential sewing machines, so that everyone can take part, including thoes who cannor afford their own supplies. Funding will also help us cover basic running costs such as room hire at Jack Cornwall centre, refreshments and storage.By providing a regular, friendly activity, the Sewing Circle will bring people together, stregthen the community, and give residents the chance to develop skills that could lead to personal growth, volunteering opportunities, or even future employment.

It will support people living with disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and those seeking asylum or refugee status.Each week, residents will have access to one-to-one support with budgeting, form-filling, benefits, and healthy meal planning. Every month, there will be workshops designed by the community, covering cooking on a budget, managing money, and using local services.We know loneliness is a huge challenge in Newham. This project will create a safe, welcoming space where people can meet others, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. We will also train 8–10 local volunteers, including people who have been through the programme, to keep support going.As one woman told us: “Being part of this made me feel like I mattered.”

This fully funded project tackles health inequalities through an anti-racist, anti-poverty, and intersectional approach. Free health and wellbeing services will be provided via quarterly events at our Manor Park centre and regular mobile pop-ups across Manor Park wards. Offerings include free health screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, ECG), fitness and mindfulness sessions (yoga, meditation, Reiki, Pranic Healing), workshops (stress management, Sports, Taichi, gut health, sexual health, diabetes awareness), and expert talks on nutrition, cardiac health, and mental wellbeing. Sofia Niazi 7 months ago Based in Old Manor Park Library, Rabbits Road Press is a community and education focussed Risograph studio that has pioneered a model of community arts education that widens access to printing and publishing.Risograph (Riso) functions like a cross between a photocopier and a screen printer and is a quick, cheap and environmentally friendly way of printing striking and colourful printed material, such as pamphlets, posters and DIY magazines (zines). We supports local artists, residents and community groups to create printed material that is reflective of the diverse cultural life of Newham and beyond. We are applying for support to run lots and lots of free local workshops at Old Manor Park Library such as: + Big Family Press: 2-weeks of free workshops for children with drop-in activities during school holidays. Expect crazy collage, stamp-making, drawing and more! + Manor Park Memories: A 6-week workshop series for seniors to make a brand new publication. + Manor Park Recipes: Make a local recipe book together inspired by Manor Park's cultures through a 5-week workshop series open to all.+ Youth Art Paper: A three-day art school for 10 young people to create a newspaper publication about causes/issues they care about.

Kolsuma Miah7 months ago The youth led Sustainability Club have generated a proposal to support student mental health and wellbeing at Plashet Girls School, the environment and biodiversity by cultivating a vibrant green oasis in the school playground. The project is a total re-imagining of an unloved hard-surfaced patch of playground. We will transform this space into a sustainable, environmentally friendly sanctuary where students can unwind, study and connect with nature. The space will double up as an outdoor learning space and be packed with fruit trees and plants that will provide the canteen with an additional source of organic produce to be used in healthy and nutritious low cost meals. This project is an investment in our future. With the right funding, this living oasis and classroom will continue to grow, fostering health, well-being, learning, and community development for years to come.

Led by a Community Chef, our classes will teach residents to turn everyday ingredients from surplus food collections and our community garden into delicious, budget-friendly, nutritious meals. It’s about empowering people to gain confidence, learn budget-friendly recipes helping them through the cost-of-living crisis, and earn accredited food hygiene certificates that open doors to employment and volunteering. By sharing food and cultural recipes, we’ll celebrate diversity, reduce isolation, and build community connections. Participants can go on to become volunteers who support our hot meals service, grow food in our garden, and lead future cooking sessions, learning new skills and taking ownership of the project. This project aims to deliver a diabetes wellbeing awareness program to support residents to manage and prevent diabetes and other deceases. We provide many activities such as sitting yoga, given by an experienced nutrition coach who has hands on experience supporting family members with diabetes. Sessions will focus on chair-based yoga, gentle movement, nutrition workshops, and peer support designed for ages 60+ onwards. They will be held at accessible community venues with take-home resources available for ongoing support as we function as the distribution centre for Vitamin D in Manor Park.The gathering will provide a supportive, community-based programme for old ages in order to reduce social isolation, stress and improve mental wellbeing to help encourage sustainable lifestyle changes and build confidence in managing heath.If everything goes well, we aim to engage at least 100 local residents hoping for positive lifestyle changes By helping those senior citizens in such a way they can come out from the loneliness, come out from stress, healthy living. Providing opportunities for age targeted communities which includes: 1) Older Adults chair based exercise to help keep fit, improve strength & mobility and meet with others.2) Mummy Moves, an exercise session for new Mothers with their Child(ren) Under 5 years.3) Females Play Sport! A Sport session for Females to learn and play Badminton, Basketball and Football. 4) A Keep Fit class for people (Male and Female) with a BMI 28+ to gain confidence within physical activity and achieve their goals. 5) Women and Children exercise and keep fit sessions to help reduce barriers to participation.Intergenerational Fitness will work with all members of the community to encourage all to live a healthy lifestyle.

Patricia Smith7 months ago The Diabetes Awareness Workshops started at the Wordsworth Surgery in November 2023 and repeated in September 2024 to include residents from five GP practices in the North East London PCN. The workshops proved very popular with residents who benefitted greatly. We are seeking funding to develop these workshops so that we can serve more people, help reduce the risk of diabetes and improve the health outcomes for people living with diabetes.You will receive a range of information including: understanding diabetes, your medication and management of the condition; diet, nutrition, simple meal preparations and understanding food labels; exercise, qi gong and other physical activity to prevent or improve the condition; prevention of diabetes related complications; how to use your glucometer; how to have peace of mind and a positive approach to a diagnosis of diabetes through relaxation and breathing techniques.As a Senior Lecturer in Allied and Public Health at the University of East London, I am passionate about empowering people living with diabetes.The sessions start in March 2026. Just turn up and get registered. Wear loose clothing and come prepared to share and to learn. I look forward to receiving your votes.Proposed budget GBP £4,854.00.

Kolsuma Miah7 months ago The ESOL and Wellbeing sessions are all about making learning and socialising accessible to everyone. Within these sessions, participants will be able to enhance their English Language skills depending on their needs. Some may want to improve their spoken English while others may want to improve their reading or writing skills. These ESOL sessions led by a qualified teacher will enable the participants to better their language skills and become more confident in managing their daily lives. Alongside the ESOL, the sessions will be tailored to participant’s wellbeing allowing them to have a safe place to socialise with peers with refreshments and board games. They will also be able to take part in creative sessions where they will be able to get active and creative artistic pieces to take home including painting, sculpting with clay and bead making.
