Working group members and Council services are now looking at project applications and shortlisting the projects that match the priorities, the essential criteria, and are feasible within the timeline. Once the shortlisting phase is complete, projects that have been shortlisted will be taken forward to the voting phase which will start on Saturday 21 October.

Katie Bilboa3 years ago We propose to build a natural play area for children on Manor Park Flats near Manor Park station.A playful landscape designed with wildlife and biodiversity at the forefront; this proposal aims to resolve the inadequate play provision in Manor Park as well as improving the habitat for flora and fauna. This would be a natural solution, consisting of a felled tree trunks climbing frame, stepping logs, animal carvings, wild flowers and native trees/plants regeneration. There would be educational signage to improve our community care for the land and empower us to act on climate challenges.Manor Park has one of the highest percentages of children under 15 in the country — roughly 4000 children in MP ward — and shockingly high levels of childhood obesity, yet there is little play provision within reasonable walking distance of people's homes. The Manor Park Appraisal Summary reported that the area is not performing well on residents’ wellbeing. Providing free and accessible outdoor play spaces that promote wellbeing is vital to giving local children (and their parents) a better future.In 2019, Newham Council declared a climate emergency and set out an action plan to improve climate emergency information to empower our community to act. Providing a hub for nature trails and other educational activities will connect children and adults with nature. Teaching our community how to nurture these spaces will inspire us all to operate more in accordance with, rather than against nature so that we can enjoy a more sustainable future together. Sofia Niazi 3 years ago Rabbits Road Press is a community and education focussed printing press based at Old Manor Park Library run by artist collective OOMK since 2017.This project would see Rabbits Road Press re-activated and open to the public on Saturdays fortnightly for 4 months, providing free art workshops and a friendly space for socialising and learning. The proposed programme involves two types of workshops which aim to appeal to a broad range of people, in particular young people, artists and those who would benefit from a friendly social space. A Risograph Induction workshop in the morning would allow participants to learn to make a two-colour art print using the specialist Risograph machine, upon completing this they would become official ‘members’ of Rabbits Road Press and can continue to use the facilities. In the afternoon, Collage Club would provide a more casual session where people can drop in for collage making and socialising. We ran this programme during the summer and both workshops were very popular, we don’t have enough funding to keep them going and having support from the fund would enable us to offer them for free to Newham residents and at a heavily subsidised price for everyone else.

SU DAVIS3 years ago Fitness for Families (FFF) will offer a range of health, fitness and sport activities to engage Women, Girl and Children to participate in regular physical activity.Simultaneous activity i.e., Women exercise sessions and Children Sports hall activities will aim to see more women participate in activities to help reduce some of the barriers to participation, such as Childcare, Costs and Local venues. Dance Aerobics, Cardio Fit and Stretch & Tone exercises for Women. Multi-Sports for Children 5-11yrs and Sport and Well-being activities for Girls 10-16 yrs. Staying Active is extremely important for all members of the community. Busy lifestyles reduce the time we make for ourselves. Lack of fitness facilities in the Little Ilford and Manor Park area results in non-activity and lower levels of health.P.A.L.A.C.E’s (Physical Activity & Lifestyle Advantages for Community Enrichment) FFF programme is the perfect solution to motivate Women, Children and Families to improve their health.Fitness for Families will be offered free to the community. Held at Little Ilford School, evenings and weekends.

We have a longstanding commitment to developing and nurturing a range of services in response to the changing needs of vulnerable and marginalised communities. We engage with local people in a pro-active manner to ensure our projects are responsive to their needs and to identify solutions to local problems. We also support informal groups to establish and develop their own activities and provide a community base for local people, groups or agencies to meet. We encourage inter-generational activity that brings together diverse communities and promotes community cohesion.The MindBody StretchZoneGet in the zone!This is a low impact stretching and relaxation workshop for adults that want to become loose and (sometimes) snooze.From the beginner to the advanced, you will learn all aspects of stretching and its benefits. You will improve joint stability, movement and flexibility. If stretching on a mat is not your thing, you can comfortably workout in the chair.You will also benefit from taking a mind vacation away from this hectic world into one of bliss, via our guided visualisation.We look forward to seeing you at The MindBody StretchZone.The Ottulaippu GroupOur Health & Wellbeing Project comprising quiz & games, yoga, dance, exercises and Health & wellbeing Awareness seminars will be open to everyone, regardless of age, gender and dis/abilities. Our objective is for anyone of any ability to come along for an hour and a half every week and enjoy dance, yoga, quiz & games and monthly seminars on health & wellbeing topic. This will be delivered by experienced coaches / trainers with a wide range of abilities, including adults with learning disabilities, senior citizens, people who come under safeguarding etc. Participants will benefit from keeping their physical & mental health in check, learn to make routine & sustainable plans for life style changes & minimise the risks of developing health conditions or illnesses.Prior to the COVID Pandemic, such health and wellbeing activities were very successful in collaboration with Diabetes UK & Stroke Association. People who accessed those activities have requested such projects must continue to give them a chance to socialise, re-establish connections within their community and prioritise health. At a time when many residents are recovering from isolation and depression from COVID, there is a dire need for local people to come together in sociable and practical activities to improve their physical and mental health & wellbeing.

Nalini Mistry3 years ago The Happiness Hub is a weekly group to meet others, relax with a cup of tea and learn tools, skills and habits of happiness in a warm and friendly atmosphere at the Jack Cornwell Community Centre.The Happiness Hub will host a program of sessions designed to improve mental health, wellbeing and happiness of the local community.The sessions will include mindfulness, meditation, relaxation, laughter yoga and breath-work practices, interactive activities and group discussion.Each month will have a particular theme like Mindful March or Joyful June and each week participants will explore a new topic. According to research from Action for Happiness, we can influence our happiness by our daily activities by 40%. Local residents and participants will be encouraged to take away the tools and techniques they learn in the sessions and practice during the week.The sessions will help to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, improve wellbeing and resilience, boost happiness and foster better relationships.The Happiness Hub is a growing community helping people to live with greater joy, peace, connection, meaning and wellbeing. We require your support to launch the Happiness Hub and help boost the happiness, mental health and wellbeing of local residents.Thank you

Kolsuma Miah3 years ago We are Healthy Minds, Strong Bodies; a new social enterprise that has been established to target the physical, mental wellbeing and health of disadvantaged young people across the UK. We have recently launched our first successful 6-week pilot programme and are seeking sponsorships to help us spread our mission across some of the UK’s most in need teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds. We have been founded by Darrell Rabess, founder of Simply Rabess Wellness, in order to combat against the rising levels of obesity in young people and the impact of Covid-19. Newham also has significant challenges – 22 per cent of children live in low-income families with 38 per cent of children eligible for free school meals. 10% of young people in Newham are leaving school with no qualifications, and we believe the power of exercise, good nutrition and well being tools can massively improve several aspects of their life.The programme has been designed to improve the students health, confidence and build habits that they can carry forward in their daily life. The Programme will conclude with an evening ceremony to celebrate their hard work, development and progress with family, friends and teachers.Funding will enable us to continue to spread to those most vulnerable young people in the borough, in an area that has many pre-existing disadvantages and inequality, rising rates of domestic violence and child exploitation. We will be working with approximately 5-7 schools and funding will enable all students to access leading wellness and nutrition practitioners, their own fitness kits, access to a mobile phone application to track their journey and resources to access local fitness and swimming amenities that their current school may not have.

Kolsuma Miah3 years ago In August 2023 we successfully ran a holiday club for children eligible for benefits-related free school meals. This was run under Newham's Holiday Activities and Foods programme and we had over 100 students attending daily. This was the first time a holiday club was open specifically for this demographic which was a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.Nearly every single parent and child rated the club as excellent or good. Given the success of the club, we would like to extend these activities over the rest of the year through weekend youth empowerment clubs for boys and girls.The youth club will provide children with a safe space to spend to give them new skills and new experiences. The youth club will focus on physical and enrichment activities to improve their health and well being, as well as developing life skills like cooking, self-defence, crime awareness, financial awareness and more. We will do this through activities and new experiences like residential retreats, farm retreats, snow camp, water sports and more.There will also be a focus on giving back to the local community through looking after the elderly, street cleans and more which will give the children a sense of collective responsibility.While we can dedicate some funding towards the project, we don’t have the complete funding to support a full year's provision. To ensure we can run this for the full year we are seeking some additional funding from Newham Council. Beyond this, we are hoping, like has happened with other schemes we have run, the community will see the benefit of these clubs and donate towards its running in future years.

Our initiatives include football Projects (Manor FC), Boxing projects (Manor Park Boxing Club), Basketball projects (Manor Park Basketball Club), Funded delivery of PE and after school clubs (Manor Sports in Schools), Youth Football League (Newham Youth League), and free healthy lifestyle education workshops.We are applying for funding to enhance and expand our sports programmes, making them more accessible to young people in Newham. This funding will enable us to provide additional coaching, equipment, and resources, allowing us to reach a wider audience. Our goal is to engage more youth in healthy physical activities, promote teamwork and discipline, and offer a safe and constructive environment for personal development.MYP recognises the importance of sports and physical activities in diverting young people away from negative influences. By offering a range of sports sessions and activities, including football, boxing, and basketball, we provide constructive outlets for energy and focus. These sessions instill discipline, teamwork, and self-esteem, ultimately reducing the likelihood of youth involvement in criminal activities. Additionally, our healthy lifestyle education workshops address the root causes of crime by educating youth about the consequences of unhealthy choices and promoting positive decision-making.As a voluntary organisation in Newham MYP can play a crucial role in addressing drug-related issues among young people by engaging them in sports and healthy lifestyle education. Through our programmes, we offer an alternative to drug use by promoting physical fitness and positive social interactions. We also integrate drug awareness and education into our workshops to inform young people about the risks associated with substance abuse. By providing a positive and supportive environment, we aim to prevent drug misuse and empower youth to make healthier choices.

In this environment it's easier for children and young people to learn. The ultimate aim would be for older children to support younger children (peer led sessions) with the support of a member of the DivertEd team. -an opportunity for children and young people to talk through any challenges they are experiencing in education; express their feelings and/or seek advice. -a monthly surgery/clinic for parents/carers to get advice re how to navigate education processesFunding to start this project for children and young people in Manor Park will be an opportunity to make a difference and help children make the most of their education, give them somewhere to think about and talk about learning and their hopes and ambitions, be listened to and get the help they need with homework and study.

This will include fitness classes for women, dance workshops for children from 8 to 18 years old, and singing classes for all. My sessions will be for a day where the first sessions will consist of dancing workshops and singing workshops in the last half. The benefit for my project is that it will help upskill people and help with their wellbeing and it also ensures families have something fun to do throughout the summer as I know how expensive it gets when you are looking for activities to do with children when they are at home. .

Lisa Marucci3 years ago Teens and Toddlers will give teenagers in Newham who are experiencing challenges the unique opportunity to become a mentor and role model to a younger child. This programme improves health and happiness by increasing confidence and self-esteem, improving overall wellbeing, and providing the opportunity to develop new skills.It will give Newham teenagers the opportunity to thrive and flourish in their community by understanding their importance and value to those around them and the area they live in.The programme will empower them to improve their educational outcomes and start to build a positive, secure future.On the programme, young people from Manor Park will spend 1.5 hours a week for 16 weeks in a local nursery supporting a toddler with learning and play activities, improving their own confidence, communication skills and aspirations for the future while also benefiting the toddler’s wellbeing. Weekly group sessions will give them the chance to reflect on what they and their peers did well, what challenges they faced and how they overcame them. They’ll gain in confidence as they’re supported to identify how their role as mentor benefitted the toddler, develop a range of new skills that will support their future health and happiness, and receive a recognised qualification to celebrate all they achieve.

Rosie Whicheloe3 years ago Our idea is to create an online plant sharing community - called Growsie.The website will connect local people to share plants for their gardens, window boxes and homes. Local green spaces like community gardens, street planters and schools will also benefit from plants from local growers. This will reduce the costs and carbon impact of travelling out-of-town or using commercial nurseries.The community will share plant growing knowledge and connect people in the local area, helping to tackle loneliness through shared passion for plants.We will use the funding to grow the network, run gardening workshops, support local green projects and community gardens. From our experience, there is no plant-focused community or platform. There are few places to buy plants in Manor Park.People have been sharing for generations, but this can be limited depending on who you know. With a simple-to-use platform online sourcing plants from local growers becomes far, far easier.

Peter Laing3 years ago We would like to work with residents and partners to co-create an exciting new “Community activation space” in Manor Park. The former Kwik Fit site on High street North has been vacant and disused for a number of years and we have managed to negotiate with the owner to use the site for community benefit pending its longer-term development. The large site is adjacent to our community hub facility at 395 High Street North and presents a unique opportunity to be transformed into a welcoming and creative focal point for the residents of Manor Park. Our ideas will focus on physical wellbeing, social engagement and reducing isolation, with activities designed to improve local residents’ mental and physical health, such as pop-up gardening, creative artworks and table tennis. We will also encourage small scale social gatherings such as cultural celebration events and community discussion groups. There will also be opportunities to find out about the Renewal Programme's other services including volunteer opportunities, youth activities, young carers provision, education, and our food bank and immigration advice. We will hold regular information sessions around the cost-of-living crisis, such as food growing and money and energy advice. We anticipate that this community space will see an increase in social engagement, community cohesion and have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of our community.

This space will serve as a multifunctional hub with the following key components: Educational Workshops: We will offer workshops and training sessions on Kombucha brewing, craft beer making, BBQ techniques, and sustainability practices. These programs will empower residents with valuable skills and knowledge. Community Events: We will organize food festivals, cultural gatherings, and community events that showcase the products and skills developed within our space. These events will encourage social interaction and a sense of belonging. Lee Taylor3 years ago We would like to renew St Mary the Virgin Churchyard, a cherished area that serves as a memorial garden and a gathering spot for residents and visitors alike. The proposed project aims to create a more inviting and accessible space for our community by adding four benches, edging for flower beds, a sign post for the church, separate signage for a map and bulletin board with current events, and four trail sign posts to mention local flora and fauna. It will be a much more welcoming place to sit and take time, to invite local schools to explore biodiversity, local heritage and history.Please note:This project is subject to permission being granted by the owner of the premises if successful

It is a community project that will promote the benefits of allotments in the community. The project will also deliver education for our young people through a combination of workshops and hands on gardening experienceWe will welcome the local community through adult workshops and two open days for all. Our project will:· Buy new tools that be used within the allotment community and community guests to ensure we have a well maintained site.· Buy 4 new dedicated community beds for communal growing· Open the site for community days to cultivate the new beds with the community· Install a bench for seating to create a place for conversation and connection· Strengthen our partnerships with the local Primary and Secondary school – to increase the school visits to the site· Encourage more people to join us – and encourage young people to stay involvedPromoting sustainability and building a strong community involvement is important to the site and this fund will make a huge difference to us by allowing more people to access and benefit from this great local asset.Please note:This project is subject to permission being granted by the Parks team if successful

Through dance and fitness sessions, we empower women to improve their physical health, boost mental well-being, and forge strong social connections in a multi-lingual and culturally competent environment.This project addresses several key priorities in the Newham Community Neighbourhood area, including health and well-being and youth empowerment. By providing a safe and inclusive space for women of all backgrounds, we enhance community cohesion and foster an environment where participants feel valued and supported.Our project includes dance and fitness sessions led by qualified instructors who understand the cultural nuances and languages of our participants, making physical activity enjoyable and accessible. We also provide volunteer opportunities, encouraging residents to actively contribute to the project's delivery.We are excited to embark on this journey towards better health and well-being for Newham's women and look forward to the support and engagement of our community in this initiative.

Alice Amponsah3 years ago Our idea is an early intervention group for parents who have children with additional needs aged 0-3 years. The purpose of this group will be to reduce loneliness and isolation, improve wellbeing, and to importantly foster a sense of hope for the future. We want to provide children with disabilities the best start in life through this early support. This will be a safe place where children can play, and parents can share experiences, supporting one another. Wellbeing is also an important purpose of this project. We will provide free tea, coffee and cake during the sessions. We will also trial ideas like free massage for parents and gifts like flowers. We will work closely with local health teams; aiming to have guest professionals visit who can provide consultations. This project would run once a week, on Thursday mornings between 10- 11:30 am at Manor Park Library.

Many families are not sure how to support their children with their home languages, often neglecting it in their eagerness to help their children learn English. Research shows that having a good understanding in your first language will support the development of your new language. Therefore, parents and families need to be equipped with this knowledge and practical ideas with how to apply this.The Multilingual Cafe will provide a multi-layered approach in providing families a way forward with their languages. The proposed project aims to create a welcoming and inclusive space that celebrates and promotes linguistic diversity and encourages cross-cultural interactions among families, community members and professionals. A place where languages are celebrated and given an equal platform, and literacy skills in other languages are used to support their understanding and acquisition of English. Bi/Multilingual Support-We would like to create a space where parents/carers can learn from experts on the best ways to support their child when they use multiple languages at home. Providing them research and advice from experts, and giving them confidence in using their first languages. Multilingual library for children- Sourcing high quality language books/bilingual books for families to promote and encourage their love for reading. To share these books with libraries in Manor park to encourage biliteracy and pride in languages. Parents/volunteers can join in our regular Multilingual Story time where stories will be shared and books will be read to children in all the languages represented in our borough. Language Café- Parents, Carer's and community members can share/support each other and learn about services and support in this area creating links and sharing best ways forward to support home learning/school work. Multilingual Hub- Training sessions will be offered to educators in the borough by Specialists in the field from UCL, London Metropolitan and Reading University alongside Kensington Primary school's Specialist Lead in Education for Multilingualism. We would like our community to realise the strengths that their languages bring with them, using this to enhance education, happiness and wellbeing for all!

Uzmaa Butt3 years ago Taking Back Your Power project will focus on Manor Park residents and their families to take back their power over their own health by being supported through education, workshops and meetings. Planning to run a 10 week mental health course also sessions on cancer support for families. The main focus will be on mental health, wellbeing, psychological barriers to wellbeing, lifestyle and lifestyle changes. I will be teaching breathing techniques, through pilates and yoga and meditation.Also, familiarise residents with the outdoor multi-gym in Plashet park as weight bearing exercises are essential for bone density, especially for women of menopause age.I will be delivering outdoor sessions that will help with physical activity, enjoying fresh clean air. We will also be using Plashet Park cafe for refreshments and further discussions there are toilet facilities there.Lastly, Shrewsbury road Health centre will be adding my project to social prescriber as I have already been in talks with them.Please note:This project is subject to permission being granted by the Parks team if successful
