Anyone who lives, learns or works in the Community Neighbourhood of Green Street can vote for their 10 favourite projects.

Make sure you vote for 10 projects before submitting your vote. You can modify your vote until 12 November at 8pm when the voting phase closes. There are 27 proposals to choose from in Green Street. They have been shortlisted by your working group. Now, it's your time to vote!

You can only vote in your Community Neighbourhood, and you can only vote once. Make sure you indicate a valid postcode and door number from the Community Neighbourhood area when you vote.

This project empowers residents to acquire essential sewing and clothing repair skills, fostering self-sufficiency and personal growth.Our primary focus is on improving mental health and well-being. We aim to provide residents with a therapeutic outlet through creative stitching activities, relieving stress, anxiety, and depression. By teaching residents how to repair their own clothes, we encourage a sustainable lifestyle that reduces waste and promotes resource conservation.Through a series of workshops, sessions, and community events, we plan to actively engage residents. Rizwan Abhi3 years ago ** Celebrate the Festival of Walking with us in the Peak District **This idea is to organise and deliver a series of community trips to sites across the UK for the purpose of hiking and mountaineering. The aspect of travelling together and sharing this experience appeals to me as I've met some really good friends whilst being amazed at the natural beauty of our National Parks. The trips will be subsidised to include the cost of the coach hire, basic refreshments, and any additional costs. This grant will ensure people from all backgrounds can attend without spending too much money. The idea is to get a good mix of people from different backgrounds and ages to connect and network whilst learning about the outdoors, environmental issues such as climate change and clean air, and the importance of a strong interconnected community to improve safety and build trust. There will be fun workshops, masterclasses and inputs on a variety of subjects with the goal of upskilling and uplifting participants.

This project aims to provide young people with the skills and training to develop their own businesses and give them the tools to take charge of their own futures. I would use this funding to provide training to young people to be able to do a range of hairstyles on themselves, their families or even to start their own small business.In our ethnic communities, hair is an important part of our culture and how we care for each other. Being able to care for our own hair is especially important when most salons do not cater to a diversity of hair types. Curly and coily hair often needs to be worn in protective styles like braids, twists, and wigs to avoid breakage. Different hair types also require very different kinds of care. It can require lots of skills to do these styles for ourselves, our children and our families. I will be training 10 people in these styles, giving them control over their own hair and the ability to transfer the skills to their community. What they will learn:- How to braid hair- How to make their own tailored wigs- Protective styling for afro hair- How to prevent breakage- How to wash and use products in hair- An introduction to starting a salon businessTrainees will receive personal learning plans, to track their progress and understand their development. Hair businesses like mine are an integral part of the culture of Queen’s Market and, through running my business and learning from other small business owners within the market, I have had the privilege of learning and growing my hair styling into the successful business it is today. This project will give people the opportunity to learn and grow within the local community, just as I did.I strongly believe that this project would provide a safe space for young people to develop their confidence and self-esteem, as well as their employability and interpersonal skills. It would increase their connection to each other and to their local community, which will in turn bolster the unique community of Queen’s Market for the next generation of small business owners. Opportunities such as these give people the tools they need to feel agency over their bodies, get a stable income, and help establish a secure future for themselves.

Newham Co-Create Admin 3 years ago It is a fine arts course/sessions focusing on paintings, drawings including digital paintings. The participants will be introduced to artists' movement and learn how to critically analyse art works. It will be 10 sessions of workshops to learn arts, history and culture of Newham. The activities for the 10 days will include; 1 day of lecture, 2 days educational trips (gallery and museums, civic buildings and other landmarks in the area) 4 days workshop, 2 days exhibit and 1 day celebration and recognition This project will boost the confidence and independence of our youth. It will also give them freedom for individual creativeness which is the emphasis throughout the project. The course will encourage positive mindset and will provide good social context, connectivity to other youth members in the areaa recognition day for the 20 participants will be held and will select 3 top works will be awarded. all 3 best selected artworks will be submitted for consideration to the Royal Academy of Arts for the Summer Exhibition 2025.

To devlop their self resilience and confidence to protect themselves and others from harm.Providing them with a safe and secure environment to learn, educate and engage in positive activities. As well as be positive role model and ambassadors of the local area and Newham.Personal safety and dignity for Women and Girls is really important to us. This project is targeted at any women who are deemed at risk or vulnerable, or may be experiencing emotional or physical abuse at home, feeling unsafe on the streets, on public transport or at their work place.We will hold an end of year community safety event and bring all our partners and stakeholders and local authority agencies to raise awareness and celebrate our rich pool of resources and support services for women and girls.

Shaun Wilson 3 years ago Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste, and it is a serious problem that can have a number of negative consequences.•It creates unsightly and hazardous eyesores.•It attracts pests and vermin.•It pollutes the environment.•It can pose a health risk to people and animals.•It costs taxpayers money to clean up.Here in Upton Avenue and Kingsley Rd, we have a number of ‘quiet’ areas where fly tippers feel this is a great place to dump their rubbish, clogging up the streets, making this place look undesirable and creating hazards on the streets.The residents of this area want to do something about it now. We are proposing the installation of planter(s) and signages to combat fly-tipping and ASB in various locations around Upton Avenue & Kingsley Rd (E7).

Herve Bessieres3 years ago 150Club Breathe, Connect & Move is a 12 weeks rolling programme promoting both physical activity and health & wellbeing for the Newham Community, coaching and supporting participants towards 150 minutes of weekly physical activity. Two specialised physical activity sessions and a health café will be available to participants. Pulmonary and cardiac diseases are among the highest causes of death in Newham. Both are also significantly worse in Newham than the national average. The programme will focus on supporting those living with these long-term conditions once discharged from NHS rehabilitation services.No such service is currently available , it will be open to both patients discharged by NHS rehabilitation services, as well as self-referrals for these meeting the programme criteria.The project provides support to become more physically active, improve the self-management of the participants health condition and thereby, reduce the rate of deterioration to improve quality of life. The Health Café will be an informal space aimed at reducing social isolation, build relationships, encourage peer support, facilitate health focused discussions and sign posting to relevant services. It will be open to both participants and these fitting the referral criteria but unable to be physically active.

Especially with cost of living crises, which is promoting heath inequities and having substantial impact on peoples mental and physical health. The purpose is to tackle poverty by providing a service that will maximising their income. Also to reduce isolation improve their health and wellbeing. To educate women how defend their self in case any incident occur. The women can feel safe to go out without any fear of attack at any time of the day or evening. All these four element will promote community participant, so they can feel sense of belonging within the wider community. To support the community with cost of living crises.

Jobrul Islam3 years ago My project is about gathering the community to explore, learn and play music, dance, share stories and food around traditional West African drums.We are going to deliver 3 workshops by a master drummer and his assistants and 1 end of project performance event where everyone is invited to join and celebrate.The ancient rhythms will transport the participants on a journey to different African countries like Senegal, Mali, Guinea (...on a journey back in time, back to the roots, back to primary rhythms found in many traditions from all around the world)..There will also be dancing involved in the drumming circle/workshops, where people will be able to rejoice, bloom, shine, let go, release and surrender to the rhythm and let their body speak. Food and stories will be shared during the breaks and inbetween the drumming sessions.Drumming & Dancing is good for mental wellbeing and welcomes everybody, of all shapes, ages, levels and background,

Whilst primarily focusing on the local priority of youth empowerment, we will also address mental health, wellbeing, and community safety.Our comprehensive and intense program will engage participants aged 13 to 18 in various activities, including educational workshops, community service engagement, fun youth activity days, opportunities for youth leadership, communication, and digital development, along with other workshops. These activities and workshops are carefully designed to instil essential life skills, enhance mental resilience, and foster a sense of belonging among young residents, ensuring they have the tools to navigate life’s challenges successfully. As part of our dedication to community wellbeing, we prioritise the mental health of our staff, participants, and the community.With ongoing evaluation and planning for long-term sustainability, our project aims to make a lasting impact, creating a safer, more engaged, and more vibrant Green Street neighbourhood for all residents. Jobrul Islam3 years ago We will provide training in the installation, application and monitoring of solar panels to Newham residents 18+.The workshops will be led by locally based, qualified electricians and take place in the community garden.The workshops will give training to between 10 and 15 young people and young adults/ adults at a time.The workshops will cover a variety of electronic devices and solar powered applications.

Step 36: Support place shaping for physical activity including leisure infrastructure and the wider environment I am therefore applying for your consideration of TFC to becoming a Newham people's powered project, not merely supporting myself in the continuation and implementation of my profession due to suffering a timely loss. But more importantly towards a joint venture and benefit for both me and the residents of Newham to who this project would serve.

Hope 4 Humanity3 years ago Hope 4 Humanity is an organisation that has been in operation since 2020 in the Borough of Newham. We run a food bank there as well as we have been running several successful projects over the course of this time. The project that we are proposing to do is called the "Women's and Youth Empowerment Project" which will be holistic, dynamic and efficient. It will involve 40 youths and 40 women in the Neighbourhood of Green Street. Activities will be tailored to meet the needs of these two groups of people. We will ensure that young people have the ability and skill to excel, regardless of their background and circumstances. Our project will also ensure that the 40 women specified, will get the opportunity to improve their health and well-being, as well as the young people. .Women will get the chance to participate in robust activities tailored to meet their needs. We will teach the young people about app making and give them training in media and the logistics around this area. Although young people know about social media platforms, they sometimes lack the knowledge of how to use and apply it properly and to their advantage. We intend to change this by providing the appropriate training in Digital Media, which will build upon their confidence, and boost their self-esteem. In doing so young people can begin to believe that they too can be on radio or television as well as they can start lucrative YouTube businesses etc., which will benefit themselves and their neighborhood. Kickboxing will also be one of the activities that young people will be given training in. Secondly, the 40 women involved will participate in a catalogue of activities that will be uplifting and satisfying. They will have dance lessons as well as women will get lessons in acting and in self-defence. We want women to learn how to protect themselves and to be safe and feel safe in their community. We will have a health cafe, where women will be given health information and advice as needed. Outside professionals as well as our staff will facilitate most of the sessions.. We will work from the SMART project model, which means that our goals will be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. Young people will be enabled to become future ambassadors and entrepreneurs in their community and there will be a combination of health benefits for women and mental stability

Community Building: Fostering a sense of unity and belonging among neighbours through weekly gatherings and social engagement. Personal Growth: Empowering individuals to discover the potential within themselves and contribute positively to the Neighbourhood. Inclusivity: Offering scholarships to ensure the project's accessibility to all residents, regardless of financial status. Focused on addressing the pressing issues of violence and sexual offences, this project leverages a multifaceted approach to create a safer, more vibrant community.Key components include place-based prevention, early intervention strategies, and active engagement with residents, businesses, and community leaders. By proactively tackling the root causes of crime and fostering a sense of shared responsibility, we aim to reduce the incidence of violence and create a more secure neighbourhood.Our project promotes community involvement through volunteer programs, neighbourhood patrols, and safety workshops, empowering residents to contribute to their safety actively. Additionally, we emphasise education and awareness to equip community members with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and their neighbours.The Green Street Community Safety Project is committed to measuring its impact through engagement metrics, crime statistics, surveys, and ongoing community feedback. Rochelle Walker3 years ago Last Year we proposed a mental Resilience programme targeted at the youth of Newham aged between 14-16 years. The programme aimed to create safer spaces within meaningful semi-structured, educational workshops and music therapy. We proposed to deliver sessions that facilitate musical creativity, whilst promoting critical thinking skills, to push back against peer-pressure and raise awareness around self worth and healthy relationships. The programme aimed to deliver this through workshops, seminars, day trips to various music venues and exhibitions as well as having featured guest speakers. This year we have returned with a refined proposal which aims at targeting 14-17 yr olds, delivering all of the above as well as practical music industry work experience ,which can be used to equip Newham's young people. Graduates of our programme will be able to enhance their CV upon completion of the project, preparing them for independent living skills and professional employment opportunities to become contributing citizens of Newham.Our programme will guide young people through self-enquiry, expansive thinking, and problem solving activities which will be evidenced in the final product of project, which will be a music festival hosted in Newham, Greenstreet.We have applied for funding as an organisation through a Newham based independent record label, which has experience in live music events, artist liaison, stage management, box office ticket sales and festival planning. As well as producing artists who have performed and recorded in world class venues such as Abbey Road Studio's, Ronnie Scotts Jazz club, Tate Modern Museum as well as internationally in festivals across Europe and Africa. Albeit a small label in its early years, the team have achieved a combination of live events and musical performance experience to pass onto the youth of Newham who are for hungry for opportunities. Greenstreet is yet to see a programme like this piloted before and will guarantee young residents of Newham a chance to see life beyond the postcodes of this borough. This programme will demonstrate how young people can create successful futures for themselves by legitimate means, whilst being creatively productive during their free time.If you wish to see a decrease in youth crime and see an increase in safe spaces in Newham for our young people, vote for this programme!If you wish to see the youth of Newham broaden their horizon's and channel their energy into gaining tangible skills and build their mental resilience whilst doing so, vote for this project!The youth of Newham are our future, by investing in Newham's young people, you will also invest in the future of Newham, by voting for this proposal!

Mohammad Shamsur Rahman3 years ago At Magic Care Moments Club, our aim is to provide specialist out-of-school sessions for children with learning disabilities and /or autism. We understand that traditional schooling may not fulfil the requirements for children who lack the right support and care. Our commitment to providing safe, caring, engaging and meaningful activity sessions for children that will enable them to develop friendships, and new skills and help with their well-being. We formed partnership with local public library and use their resources as our activity venue. All our teachers are qualified and have experience of providing activities for the children. All our teachers, volunteers are DBS checked. We offer music therapy, Art therapy, Dance Class and tie-dye sessions. There are many more to come.
