Opening Event

Join us for the re-opening event of the newly refurbished Jack Cornwell Community Centre. The event is open to all residents and will have activities and entertainment for all community.

An event was carried out on 21st September 2023 to engage residents and users of the Jack Cornwell Community Centre in the initial process of thinking about and designing a mural - in terms of colour palette, imagery and possible layout.

There were approximately 30-40 attendees to the event. Mostly local people including many women with children.

Three stations were set up in the space to help tease out ideas about the mural. These included: 1. Mapping journeys from home to the centre thinking about key moments in the local area 2. Designing and cutting out shapes that represent activities and objects from the centre 3. Voting for a colour palette

Upcoming Events

Participatory Workshop 03: 21st September 2023

Please join us for another fun and interactive afternoon, focusing on initial ideas for a mural at the centre. The event will take place on Thursday 21st September from 4-6pm. 

Our Multidisciplinary team of architects and designers will be leading a creative arts and crafts session exploring various themes at various scales through writing or drawing while also exploring the colour palette for the mural.

Participatory Workshop 02: 28th July 2023

Please join us at the Jack Cornwell Community Centre for another fun and interactive afternoon. The event will take place on Friday 28th July, 4-6pm. 

The afternoon will be hosted by Public Works who are organising the refurbishment of the centre on behalf of London Borough of Newham.

They will be talking through the latest designs for the upcoming changes to the Community Centre, and there will be food, arts and gardening activities for all ages including hunting for bugs, and planting seeds for you to take home.

Participatory Workshop 01: 19th June 2023

Please join us at the Jack Cornwell Community Centre for an interactive and fun afternoon followed by a free community meal. The event will take place on Monday 19th June, 4-6:30pm. 

The afternoon will be hosted by Public Works who are organising the refurbishment of the centre on behalf of London Borough of Newham. The event will focus on gardening and cooking, through guided tours of the centre, and arts and crafts activities, suitable for all ages.

They will be collecting your favourite recipes and finding out the stories behind them, and looking at the future design of the garden together.

We want to find out what local skills local residents have in farming, horticulture, food growing and cooking. We will then consider how the garden and kitchen at the Jack Cornwell Community Centre can work together with the main hall to support local residents' needs and wishes for the future of the centre.
