Manor Park Community Assemblies 2022

Overview

The Community Assemblies will identify how best to address concerns in your area. The assemblies give you and your neighbours direct influence to create a shared vision for the place where you live, work or learn and to help shape its development and growth. This will be your chance to discuss local priorities, establish community projects for your neighbourhood, and influence how the £100,000 available in your neighbourhood will be spent.

Background

Manor Park Community Neighbourhood is made up of 3 wards; Plashet, Little Ilford and Manor Park.

In the previous cycle, residents put forward and voted for their top three priorities of concern for each neighbourhood. These priorities will be carried forward to the current cycle.

How to use this platform:

We will use this space to invite you to actively contribute in many different ways on how funding is spent on community projects to improve your local area and to also inform you about the progress of the projects. The timeline illustrates the different stages of engagement, both past and present. Only the current stage is open for contributions, but you can also review past engagements and see what is coming up in the future.

Rebecca Stewart4 years ago The corner of Carlyle Road onto Romford Road is a flytipping hotspot. The extended pavement invites rubbish. The opposite (north side) pavement is planted up not only deterring flytipping but also improving biodiversity and greening of the borough. My proposal is for the hotspot to be turned into a flower bed. It's very straightforward as the opposite side provides an example of what it would look like. The concrete needs to be removed and then local, hardy, evergreen perennials can be planted up. The picture shows the north side example greenery. It's so simple to do!

Manor Park Working Group Proposal4 years ago The cage currently is only designed for Basketball, however there is an opportunity to make it be a multipurpose court perhaps putting a 5 aside football pitch within the space and a volleyball court, as there is a variety of ball games being played within the space.Benefits- Improving the multi sports area will make the sports area fit for purpose for young people and families.- Increase footfall of in the park and bring communities together through programmes.- Reduce anti- social behaviour in the park- Residents will feel comfortable accessing the park

Peter Moreton4 years ago The Plashet Park nature trail project aims to be a “celebration of our community”. Bringing together people from local schools, health providers like the NHS and community groups to co-create a sensitively landscaped, interactive trail that enhances the green space within the park. Increasing the activities on offer for families and adults and improving under-used areas of the park, helping local residents to get the most out of time spent outdoors and in nature. As people move from one area of the trail to the next we aim to stimulate different senses, transporting people through different natural environments from the butterfly and bee garden, to the sensory garden to the woodland fernery. The trail will increase biodiversity and natural play through diverse planting and a variety of landscaped features which will also add visual interest. We aim to use sustainable, recycled and natural materials where possible, linking with Applecart and Patch Cafés to recycle their coffee grounds. We hope to include wild planting indigenous to the UK as well as pockets of plants found in other countries-reflecting the diversity of Newham.Offering people “5 minutes peace” in an urban space and a chance to learn more about our environment we hope that the trail will bring our community together to share their skills and ideas. Creating support networks and reducing isolation which has resulted from the pandemic, and having a lasting impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.People will have a chance to learn more about how looking after our environment is an important part of looking after ourselves and through co-production between Applecart Arts and local residents we will make a positive sustainable difference to our local area and longer-term the trail will become a living exhibition that celebrates the diverse cultural heritage within Newham.

Kirsty Lowry Smith4 years ago This proposal aims to fund the planting of 10 street trees in Manor Park. Work is already taking place to map the location of existing tree pits in the locality and new trees are beginning to appear, but with so many trees lost and not replaced along our streets, and the increased knowledge of the numerous benefits of urban trees, we need to do more!The Council specifies a budget of £500 to cover the planting of one tree in an existing tree pit, including associated costs; this proposal is a request to fund the planting of 10 more trees in Manor Park, focusing on the most polluted part of the area, Romford Road.I probably don’t need to emphasise the infinite and well researched benefits of trees as part of the healthy infrastructure of a busy, urban environment like Manor Park. Fundamentally, trees give us the air we breathe, and in highly polluted areas, trees are proven to be a sustainable way to ensure cleaner air. The planting initiative needs to be ongoing, and requires dedicated funds to ensure the increase of street trees remains one of the highest priorities in the efforts to improve the locality for everyone.

Mark Sinclair4 years ago My proposal is to install a fixed outdoor table tennis table in Manor Park.There are many outdoor tables across Newham, London and the UK – but nothing local to Manor Park for residents and visitors to access.Outdoor table tennis in Manor Park can bring positive benefits to all members of the community – it’s a social activity that can be played for fun by people of all abilities.Costs to play are free or minimal. Access to the table would be free and the cost of table tennis bats/balls are relatively cheap. I am also looking into setting up a free rental via deposit scheme at the nearby Manor Park library or other businesses so that everyone could use the facilities.I have identified a site next to the Manor Park Community Centre at 524 High Street North, in the area between the basketball court and the pavement (as shown in image on the left). This would use existing space in a central Manor Park spot, without taking away from any pavements/cycle paths/roads, car parking, green space or other facilities.As well as the option to just turn up and play with friends, family or members of community groups, it also offers possibilities for new connections with neighbours – this could include through organised events for all abilities.

Sarah Shaw4 years ago Flats Pickers is a community litter pick. We meet once a month and volunteers litter pick on Wanstead Flats and surrounding areas. We have been running for 7 years and have removed around 2500 bags of rubbish. Between 15 and 50 people take part every month and regulars have formed friendships through the group.We started the pick in frustration at the regular fly tipping and littering on our street and area and hope that a cleaner green space will attract more people to use our wonderful resourceWe’d like to make the pick and equipment more widely and easily available and less reliant on individuals to fund running costs. We’d like to reach more people who can benefit from an increased feeing of belonging and community by taking action together in the outdoors. We’d like to be able to reward regular attendees with litter picking equipment they can take home and use in their locality and attract more new people with accessible information on how they can take part.Funding would be spent on the admin around publicising the pick, equipment to loan and give out, a secure outdoor storage box in a front garden accessible with a code and hi vis vests printed with our info and how people can join. When people ask what we’re doing (as they often do) we’d like to be able to give them printed cards on how they can get involved. Funding could pay for a temporary banner to be put up during litter pick sessions. A small trolley would enable us to safely get equipment from my front garden to the litter pickWe believe it meets the Manor Park priorities by making our green space cleaner, removing litter to improve our neighbourhood and encourages people to meet their neighbours and take action to support nature in our area
