LITTLE ILFORD BRIGHTER ALLEYWAYS
The Project aims to deliver enhancements to up to four alleyways across Little Ilford to ensure safer, cleaner and brightened-up connections for local residents, businesses and cyclists. The proposed improvements aim to encourage more active use via wayfinding connections to the centre of Little Ilford including Jack Cornwell Street, Warrior Square, the playground, and shops.
The project aims to address recommendations in Newham High Streets Report: ‘Brighter Alleyways’, ‘Warrior Square Streets’ and ‘Cemetery Entrance’.
The project will be developed through a community co-design process and is likely to include:
· Creative painting and other graphical and colourful enhancements to the alleyway walls
· Lighting
· Wayfinding
· Play streets
· De-paving and urban greening
· Floor markings and other enhancements
· CCTV and other safety features
Your opinion on the types of improvements is important. Do you have any further ideas or want to comment on the proposed improvement types above, please see the timeline at the bottom of the page for details on how to share your thoughts at each project stage.
Phases
Strategic Recommendation
In 2021, Newham Council kicked off Phase 1 of the Newham High Streets Programme. The Council engaged with the community and established the priorities for Little Ilford. Local residents were invited to suggest and vote for projects to improve their local area. The recommendations included encouraging more active use and improved connections to the centre of Little Ilford including Jack Cornwell Street, Warrior Square, the playground, and shops and the cemetery Manor Park Entrance from the underpass at the rear of Aldrersbrook Estate.
You can read more about the Newham High Street Programme here and read the report for Little Ilford that was published in June 2021 here.
