Queen's Market [March 2026]

Following on productive talks and agreement with the Queen's Market Traders Union, works to further upgrade lighting in Queen's Market has started. The image below shows some temporary lights in the middle isle, while we change the current lights with new, even brighter ones.

Signage on canopies is now illuminated, which makes it even more visible from the street and on the approach to the market from the station.


Green Street Community Hub [March 2026]

A platform lift has been installed in the spaces to make them accessible and inclusive.


New windows have been installed on first floor level, flooding the spaces with natural light.

A new staircase, which will connect the floors has now arrived on site and is being installed by a specialist team.

Interior walls are being lined and finishes applied. This work is coordinated with installation of other services within the spaces.

The extension walls are being completed now. In addition, better lighting will be installed in the alleyway to deter ASB in this area and make the space brighter and safer for residents using this shortcut between Rochester Avenue and Queen's Square.

We have started works on the new community hub. You will find some hoarding being erected to protect the site and members of the public.

A traffic order has been issued to temporarily close the alleyway connecting Queen's Square with Rochester Avenue and will be in place over coming months, while we undertake the works. Please use alternative routes through Selsdon Road or Queen's Market. We are sorry for any incovenience this will cause to you.

Demolition of the old canopies started now on site!

We will be recycling some of the old paving blocks to reduce our carbon-footprint! Here, they are neatly stacked up for re-use.

The tender for this project is currently live and we expect to appoint main works contractor in winter.

The works to install pigeon-proofing mesh to the ceiling and new lights have concluded in June 2024.

Shortly, we will start works to the canopies at the front of the market, which will be replaced by a new structure.


Queen's Market [March 2024]

Installation of pigeon-proofing mesh in Queen's Market is progressing on schedule and we have reached the middle of the market. Once completed, this new mesh system will provide a neater and more robust solution to keep pigeons out of the market and protect traders' stock.

Installation of new lighting will follow once the mesh system is completed.


Queen's Market [February 2024]

We are progressing with the works installing pigeon-deterent mesh system to the ceiling at Queen's Market, and have now started Phase 2 of these works, moving further into the market hall.

The new mesh system will provide a more robust pigeon deterent and will attract less dust.


Queen's Market [January 2024]

The second phase of works at Queen's Market started on 8 January 2024 and is anticipated to finish at the end of March 2024. Our appointed contractor, FM Conway, will be installing new pigeon mesh to the ceiling and above the kiosks, and new lighting across the market hall.

We are undertaking these works in stages, carefully considered by the contractor and Markets Team to limit disruption to market traders, retailers and shoppers to the necessary minimum.

Queen's Market trading hall works [December 2023]

We have now finished cleaning the ceiling of the market. To minimise disruption, we are pausing all until 2 January 2024, when we will start working on the new mesh system and lighting in the market.

On Monday, 13 November, we have started works on removing the pigeon netting and existing lights from the ceiling of the market. These works will be followed by thorough cleaning of the internal structure.

Once completed, we will start installation of the new metal mesh and improved lighting, which is currently expected to start in early new year.

The new public toilets are now fully open to the public.


Queen's Square is now open for you to use and enjoy! [October 2023]

We have completed the works on Queen's Square and held an Opening Event on 30.09. We received much positive feedback and are grateful to be part of improving resident's satisfaction with their local areas.


Queen's Market toilets are now complete! [October 2023]

We have finished the construction of the Queen's Market new public toilets and management office in units 12&13.

We are currently working on getting on-board a maintenance company and an attendant to ensure the toilets are always safe and clean to use. Please bear with us while we complete this process.


Queen's Square opening event! [September 2023]

Join us at Queen's Square on Saturday 30th September between 10:30am and 1:30pm to celebrate the completion of this fantastic community project!

We were planning to open Queen's Square to the public by the end of August for everyone to enjoy. Unfortunately, we have experienced some unforeseen challenges and are still working on completing some final elements on site.

We appreciate that this is disappointing news and apologise for any inconvenience.

We anticipate completion of this fantastic project and opening of the square in w/c 25th September.

Further progress has been made in Queen's Market by our team delivering the new public toilets and market office. The office will now feature a welcoming reception area.

We are also providing a free drinking water dispenser.

Green Street Workspace [January 2023]

Proposed new workspace for Green Street becomes closer to reality.

The proposed new workspace for Green Street accommodating up to 50 local businesses has become more of a reality with approval of planning permission from Newham Council. The investment being made by the Council in Green Street will provide a much needed and valuable new asset to businesses operating in the area.
