How to apply
Apply now to become a working group member by filling the application form online HERE OR download and complete the word document attachment and send back via email or post to your local Community Neighbourhood team (details at end of description).

What are Community Assemblies?
Community Assemblies give Newham residents the chance to make positive change together in their local area. Your local Community Assembly is allocated £200k to spend over two years on local projects done by local people.
What are working groups?
Working groups are a group of residents, Council officers and local councillors coming together to support Community Assemblies from start to end.
Each Community Neighbourhood area has a working group. The working group is made up local residents, councillors, council officers and local stakeholders who all work together to improve the quality of life in the Community Neighbourhood area.
What working groups do:
● Shortlist project proposals. Working group members use their local knowledge to help decide which projects go through to the final round of voting, where all residents of Newham can vote.
● Monitor projects. The working group helps to make sure each chosen project has a positive impact in their local area. This is called monitoring and involves taking part in monitoring visits.
● Promote Community Assemblies. The working group helps communicate about Community Assemblies to make sure everyone in the local area has a chance to take part.
● Give feedback. The working group may advise on how local services can be improved based on feedback from the assemblies. It also gives feedback about Community Assemblies to help improve the process.
Who can become a working group member?
Anyone who lives, works or learns in the Community Neighbourhood can apply, including existing working group members. You must be 16 years old or over to apply.
Working group members are selected based on the selection criteria and a short interview.
No prior experience or knowledge of Community Assemblies is needed.
Selection criteria
Essential
● Knowledge of the local neighbourhood.
● Interest in the general good of the community (rather than personal interests).
● Be able to attend meetings in person or online.
● A willingness to work with others and consider different points of view.
● Ability to think critically and use this to shortlist projects proposals.
● Being open, inclusive and transparent.
● Being punctual and manage time well.
● Being sensitive and responsible with personal information.
Desirable
● Being comfortable using a computer, the internet and digital platforms.
● Administrative skills.
● An eye for detail.
● Good communication skills.
● Be willing to present.
● Being well organised.
You will receive training and support to help you in your role.
Practical details
Deadline: Sunday 2 April
Appointment length: 2 years (April 2023 – March 2025)
Time commitment: 4-6 hours/month on average
Reward and recognition: You will be compensated for your time. The current rate is £11.95 per hour.
