Homelessness & Rough Sleeping Strategy Consultation
Our draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy sets out how we will build on our achievements over the last two years, and deliver on our promise to treat people who are homeless and rough sleeping with care and compassion.
The strategy sets out the context and current state of homelessness in Newham, including the impact of Covid-19. It is organised around six themes:
- Understand current and future housing need
- Prevent homelessness through early help
- Support people to move off, and stay off, the streets
- Improve access to better housing that meets the needs of residents
- Reduce the use of temporary accommodation
- Adopt a partnership approach to preventing homelessness and improving wellbeing
The strategy will be open for consultation from 29th July to 24th September 2021, and we are keen to hear your views.
Phases
Consultation phase
During this phase of the project we will be asking local residents and organisations to share their feedback on the draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy. We are keen to hear from a wide range of people, including those with lived experience of homelessness and rough sleeping, and those working or volunteering to support people and families who are homeless.
The draft strategy sets out our plans to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping for the next five years, and will replace a two-year strategy that we published in December 2019. The strategy is supported by the Homelessness Review, an evidence base collating data and context around homelessness and rough sleeping in Newham. The final version will also be accompanied by a twelve-month action plan, setting out the specific actions we will take to meet the strategy's longer-term goals.
There are two ways you can share your views:
