Greenhill Centre
A team of architects and consultants are currently developing a set of proposals to redevelop the site to provide around 80 genuinely affordable and spacious homes (most of which will be family homes). The neighbouring public realm will be improved for the benefit of the whole community.
The current site is owned by the Council and currently includes a gym, doctor’s surgery and boxing club. The intention is to re-provide the gym on site. The Doctor’s surgery will be relocating to the Froud Centre in the summer of 2021 and the boxing club to new premises 10 minutes’ walk from their current home.
The Council will not be providing off-street parking apart from accessible spaces and parking stress surveys will be conducted.
These proposals are at an early stage but will follow these principles and outcomes:
Quality
To be in keeping with the area, with the buildings being four to eight storeys and to a well thought out design by award winning architects Haworth Tompkins
Landscaping
A specialist landscape architect has been appointed to ensure that the scheme is supported by additional planting, some private gardens and that existing trees are maintained.
Affordable
The new homes will include family-sized and wheelchair accessible homes. Approximately 70% of the homes will be at London Affordable Rent levels and 30% will be for low cost shared ownership .There will be no homes for private sale.
Sustainability
The new homes will be built to sustainable energy standards, with a reduced carbon footprint during both construction and in use, as well as lower fuel bills.
Parking
New residents will be unable to apply for parking permits and the development will be car free, with the exception of wheelchair parking on site in accordance with Council policy.
