Developing a Green and Water Spaces Infrastructure Strategy

We’re developing a strategy for parks and waterways that will protect the borough’s precious green and water assets and we would like to invite you to participate in this important piece of work.

The Green and Water Spaces Infrastructure Strategy will bring together our aims and objectives for the borough’s green and water spaces to ensure such space is planned, designed and managed to meet the needs of our communities and to address the impacts of climate change, poor health and biodiversity loss.

By looking at the quality of Newham’s green and water spaces, we’ll be able to see where new open space might be needed or where existing parks might need to be improved. We can also look at how green and water spaces can be joined up, which will support biodiversity.

The Strategy will:

• Assess the current and future supply and demand for different forms of open space

• Develop standards for the quantity and quality of open space

• Assess the quality of open space in the borough

• Identify options to deliver increases in the quantity and quality of open space

• Assessment of Newham’s biodiversity and identification of opportunities to improve it

To help us develop this important strategy, we want to understand what you value about Newham’s green and water spaces, how you use them and why.

How can you get involved:

-        Complete the online survey below

-        Attend a community workshop - please see the events listed below

Further Information:

The Green and Water Infrastructure Strategy is also being used to inform the planning polices in the emerging Local Plan. An interim Green and Water Infrastructure report is complete and is available here. If you would like to comment on the new Local Plan for Newham you can do so here before 20 February 2023.
