Football Foundation funding for PlayZones
The Football Foundation's PlayZone programme plans to create 330 Playzones across the UK as part of a £92m investment by the end of 2025.
London Borough of Newham have been accepted into this programme and now has the opportunity to apply for up to 75% funding for new or refurbished multi-use games areas in six locations across the borough.
Across 2023-24, the Council are engaging with local communities to:
- Collect evidence of local need to inform the next stage of the project.
- Identify which sports would benefit each neighbourhood.
- Ensure any new facilities will be accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Phases
Narrowing the focus & community engagement
A range of engagement took place over a 12-month period that included discussions with individual residents, local community groups and organisations, focus group conversations and individual and organisation surveys which informed PlayZone site development. Undertaking the community engagement process confirmed the need/demand for additional high quality/inclusive facilities in this area.
