Custom House and Canning Town Community Assemblies
Overview
The Community Assemblies will identify and discuss how best to address challenges in your area. The assemblies give you and your neighbours direct influence to create a shared vision for the place where you live, work or learn and to help shape its development and growth. This will be your chance to set priorities, establish community projects for your neighbourhood, influence decision making, and have a greater say in how local funding of approximately £100,000 will be spent.

Phases
Registration for 2nd Community Assembly and Questions for Community Projects
Update
During the past month, there have been fantastic project submissions in each of the Community Neighbourhood areas. The Community Assembly Working Groups have now assessed all stage one and two project applications and those that met the funding criteria have been put forward to the voting round which goes live on 16 July.
Unfortunately, the number of applications that met the funding criteria was much less than anticipated. Therefore, the council has decided to revoke the split in funds which would have given £30k to resident projects and £70k to Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS) partners. This means the whole amount of £100k will be allocated by your votes in a single voting round which combines all resident and VCFS projects. You as a resident will be assigned £100k to vote on the projects, which are most important to you.
In neighbourhoods where there weren’t enough viable projects, the local Working Groups have gone through the initial ideas submitted by the community on the Newham co-create platform. They have developed those ideas which aligned with the chosen neighbourhood priorities into project proposals to ensure there are plenty of projects that people could choose from when submitting their vote. These projects, which will be delivered by the council if they receive enough votes and will be included in the voting phase along with the resident and VCFS projects.
Community Projects going through to the next phase (voting round)
All funding applications have now been assessed by your local Community Assembly Working Group. Please see below attachment with the list of community projects that will be progressing to the voting round. In this stage, before the voting round starts, you can submit a clarification question directly to applicants to find out more information about a project that you're interested in. Simply click here to complete a short form to ask your question and click submit. All questions and responses will be uploaded onto phase 5 by 21 July.
Custom House & Canning Town Community Assembly - second meeting.
From 16 July, you will be able to choose which projects are allocated a portion of the £100,000 funding in phases 5 and 6. So in this local Community Assembly you can:
- learn about the community projects which have qualified to the voting stages
- hear directly from funding applicants about their proposals
- help you make up your mind what projects you want to vote on
- ask clarifying questions
The assemblies give you and your neighbours a shared, direct influence for the place where you live, work or learn and to help shape its development and growth. Anyone who lives, works or learns in the Community Neighbourhood can take part.
The assembly will be held via Zoom. A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter will be available for anyone who requires BSL.
