Community Road Community Centre
The Community Road community centre building has been identified as a site suitable for both the improvement of its community use and its suitability to provide new affordable housing.
As part of the Council's Affordable Homes for Newham Programme, we are pleased to advise that we are proposing to rebuild and upgrade the community centre, and deliver nine new affordable council homes for Newham residents.
In addition to the new accessible community centre and affordable homes, we are also proposing to improve the public realm along Community Road with enhanced landscaping and easier pedestrian access.
Newham, like many other London boroughs has a large demand for housing, which far outweighs supply – there are approximately 31,000 applicants on the housing register in Newham, with 5,500 households currently living in Temporary Accommodation. The Council is tackling this housing crisis through an ambitious council house building programme, with a target set by the Mayor of Newham to deliver 1,500 new homes by 2026.
We are intending to submit a planning application in the late Summer 2023, with a determination to be made by Newham's Planning Committee by Winter 2023.

The views of the local community are important to us, and we welcome your feedback on these proposals. Your local knowledge, thoughts and suggestions will help us shape the proposals in advance of the planning application submission.
We would like to invite you to a Public Consultation to view and let us know your thoughts on these proposals to redevelop this community centre on Community Road. The Consultation will be held as a drop-in event.

We will be hosting a consultation event on July 1st for local community members to view the proposals and give us your feedback.
For the project team to have sufficient time to consider your feedback and possible amendments to the scheme, we kindly as that you let us have your views on the proposals by Monday 14th August by email to CommunityRoad@yourshout.com.
