COLOURS OF GREEN STREET

The Project will deliver a number of murals aligned with an ambition to identify feasible sites for murals and work with local artists to develop them, highlighting the history and identity of Green Street to brighten and make the area more attractive to the locals and visitors.

The mural designs will be developed through a community co-design process including multiple in-person workshops and drop-in sessions as well as these online project pages here including the details of the project and providing residents with an opportunity to engage in the discussions online.

The project aims to address recommendations in Newham High Streets Strategy: ‘Colours of Green Street’ and ‘Green Street', ‘Bright Alleyways’.

The final mural designs will be developed through a community co-design process which will involve public consultation on the shortlisted mural proposals. The preferred option for each mural is to be revised to create final mural designs through collaboration between the local creative collaborators and the mural company.

Your opinion on the mural designs is important. Do you have any further ideas or want to comment on the proposed designs, please see the timeline at the bottom of the page for details on how to share your thoughts at each project stage.

If you have any queries about the project or wanted to get in touch more generally, please email NewhamHighStreets@newham.gov.uk

Artist Selection

August 14, 2023 11:00 PM - September 1, 2023 11:00 PM

You are invited to vote for your favourite artists to design large-scale artwork for Green Street. This is for the project 'Colours of Green Street' which will deliver several large-scale artworks through co-design with the communities and the artists in the Green Street area.

You will get the chance to find out more about the selection of very talented artists before voting for your favourites through the online poll pages. The artists you vote for will then get the opportunity to design large-scale murals for Green Street! This will be a paid opportunity for the final selected artists.

Please follow the link below to complete the poll.

The poll should take you approximately 10 minutes to complete. The deadline to complete this form is Monday 28th August 6pm. Please feel free to share this poll with anyone in Newham who you think may be interested.

To help you decide which artists suit your community best, here are some common themes that came up during the first 'Colours of Green Street' workshops. These are things that your fellow community members would like to see the chosen artists design for large scale artworks in Green Street: Diversity, Multiculturalism, Fashion, Food, Festivals, History of Green Street, Future of Green Street, Environment, Flowers, Green Street Market, hospitality, Artworks Discouraging Antisocial behaviour, Colourful artwork.

Please also find attached a deck with additional portfolio images if you would like to consider each artist in more detail.

Thank you for your time.
