Calling all Newham Council Tenants and Leaseholders

Newham Housing Services are developing a new Resident Involvement Strategy and we want your help.

What will this strategy do?

Our residents contact our housing services in different ways for different reasons. Some people may be part of a group that meets regularly to talk about certain issues, while others might just reach out to tell us about something that's not working. We want to make sure that everyone feels heard, no matter how they contact us, and that we're using your feedback in the best way possible.

What is a strategy?

A strategy explains where an organisation wants to go and how it plans to get there. For this Resident Involvement Strategy, it means deciding what we want resident involvement to look like and how we will make it happen. It also means thinking about what needs to change or improve to make this possible.

Background

In 2021, Newham's Housing Service created our first Resident Involvement Strategy. Since then, we have worked with tenants and leaseholders on more than 100 estate improvement projects, delivered 20 Fun Days, over 30 Local Area Forums, 2 Performance Review Panels, 5 working groups, and helped start 6 Tenants and Residents Associations.

Following the service’s recent C4 grading from the Housing Regulator we are committed to furthering our work to involve residents in meaningful and accessible ways.

We need a new strategy that sets out our improved approach, and this time we are involving residents from the very start, this strategy will be developed using your ideas and opinions to make sure that everything we are planning works for you.

Over summer 2024, a small group of residents responded to a survey we sent out to tenants and leaseholders. We have used their feedback to start work on the new our strategy.

They told us:

Consultation

July 2, 2025 - July 23, 2025

We have now co-produced the draft Resident Involvement Strategy with council housing residents and now want you to provide your final feedback and comments on it.

We put the strategy together with you by asking how you wish to get involved through a survey with over a 100 responses and developing this further in 2 workshops.

You’ve told us your main priority is to have a range of local opportunities to share your views alongside having opportunities to connect with others and to contribute to housing service improvements. We’ve built this into the draft strategy, which you can download via the PDF link titled “Draft Resident Involvement Strategy 2025–2030” below. Please do read it before completing the survey.
