Become the Little Ilford Neighbourhood Chair
We're looking for an Independent Chair to lead the new Little Ilford Neighbourhood Board.
This is an exciting opportunity to help bring people together, guide important conversations and ensure that local people play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the area.
You don't need to be a politician or have previous Board experience. We're looking for someone who is fair, inclusive, a good listener and passionate about Little Ilford and its communities.
The deadline to submit an application is Sunday 12 July.
Paper applications for both the Little Ilford Neighbourhood Chair and Board Member roles are available to collect and submit at the Jack Cornwell Community Centre.

What will the Chair do?
As Independent Chair, you will:
Provide independent leadership and ensure the Board operates in a fair, transparent, inclusive and community-led manner.
Responsibilities include:
- Chair Board meetings
- Support development of the Pride in Place Plan
- Participate in Board appointments
- Promote transparency and inclusion
- Support effective decision-making
- Champion community participation
Who are we looking for?
We welcome applications from people with a strong connection to Little Ilford.
You may live, work, study, volunteer or run a business in the area. You might have experience of community leadership, bringing people together, or supporting local projects – but this isn't essential.
Time commitment
The role is expected to take a minimum of 4-8 hours per month, including:
- One Board meeting every 4-6 weeks minimum.
- Reading and preparing for meetings.
- Occasional workshops and community events.
- Commitment to a minimum of two years, with the expectation that board members will serve up to four years.
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
- Have a strong connection to Little Ilford.
- Support the aims of the programme.
- Commit time to Board activities.
- Agree to the Code of Conduct.
Current employees of the London Borough of Newham are not eligible to apply for either the Independent Chair or Neighbourhood Board positions.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Little Ilford
- Community leadership experience
- It is required that majority of people live, work, study or volunteer
- Financial literacy
- Understanding of finance and budgets
- Organisational experience
Note: Expenses will be reimbursed, and board members will receive the London Living Wage where applicable.
