Beckton Parks Masterplan
Co-designing a Sustainable Future for our Green Spaces.
Newham Council are working with residents and community stakeholders to create a future vision for the Beckton Parks Masterplan area.
Watch this short video to find out more!
The area covers 2 council wards: Beckton and Custom House. It includes the largest amount of local authority managed green space in the borough and a variety of leisure and community facilities situated within Beckton District Park (North and South), New Beckton Park, Beckton Corridor, Newham City Farm Site and King George V Park:
The landscape offers enormous potential to create new and improved sports, leisure, wildlife and community led opportunities through improving existing spaces and facilities and re-purposing areas to better meet local needs.
We are planning a variety of ways for you to get involved in co-designing this exciting masterplan over the coming months. Engagement opportunities and events will be advertised throughout the project phases below.
Phases
Sharing The Masterplan
The creation of a masterplan for Beckton Parks is a long-term strategic programme spread across several phases. The views gathered within the Beckton Parks Playbook in 2022 informed the community-led vision for the future of Beckton Parks. The Vision has formed the foundations of the emerging masterplan and has provided a rich starting point to develop the designs.
The Co-Design Report attached below demonstrates the process of community co-design that has followed the publication of the Playbook. These activities have been led by the masterplanning team from East Architecture commissioned by Newham Council with support from the GLA.
The report includes information about the community co-design process and reports on the outcomes of the workshops and surveys that took place, the report also presents the concluding designs to be included in the Beckton Parks Masterplan.
East are now working to finalise the masterplan report. This involves costing all elements of the proposed masterplan and making recommendations for implementation based on a combination of findings from this report and the cost plans. Once concluded, Newham Officers will present this at cabinet for approval. Once approved, the masterplan will be published and available to the public.
Implementation of the Beckton Parks Masterplan will happen through a sequence of phased projects delivered over the coming years. Community engagement will continue to shape the design and delivery of these projects.
