Green Street Workspace
The project
A Workspace provision will be located in a vacant unit on Green Street, directly facing Queen's Square, and delivered as part of the Green Street Community Hub. It will provide opportunities for businesses and residents from Newham to establish themselves in the heart of Green Street and will help to provide more job and training opportunities.
Information about operating model for the workspace will be advertised in due course.
Unfortunately, our initial ambition for a meanwhile standalone workspace on Rochester Avenue could not be delivered. Following a competitive tender process and return of bids, it has been assessed that the delivery of proposed workspace on the elevated car park is not financially viable. Therefore, the project has been re-scoped to instead deliver a smaller workspace provision as part of the Community Hub works.
Phases
Design Phase
In April 2021, the design teams for the four projects were appointed. The designers ran co-design workshops with local residents, Queens Market traders and Green Street businesses as part of an overall engagement strategy on the four projects.
Co design - working with local people to deliver successful projects
When we start a project, we try to get the local community involved in the discussions and planning. We want to understand their views, and hear their opinions and ideas. We call this process Co-Design, and it helps us make sure every project meets the needs of the local community.
How Co-design works
We gather a wide range of opinions and use local expertise to help us design and improve our projects. We do this by:
- Talking and listening either online or in person
- Exploring the project in groups with interactive activities
- Drawing what already exists, and what we can create for the future
- Making models or life-size demonstrations to test our ideas
Our projects are designed to improve the lives of the local community. With your help and support, we can make sure every project is a success.
