Green Street Workspace

The project

A Workspace provision will be located in a vacant unit on Green Street, directly facing Queen's Square, and delivered as part of the Green Street Community Hub. It will provide opportunities for businesses and residents from Newham to establish themselves in the heart of Green Street and will help to provide more job and training opportunities.

Information about operating model for the workspace will be advertised in due course.

Unfortunately, our initial ambition for a meanwhile standalone workspace on Rochester Avenue could not be delivered. Following a competitive tender process and return of bids, it has been assessed that the delivery of proposed workspace on the elevated car park is not financially viable. Therefore, the project has been re-scoped to instead deliver a smaller workspace provision as part of the Community Hub works.

Draft Design Brief Engagement

August 24, 2020 - September 21, 2020

From 24 August, the Council will be engaging with the local residents, Queens Market Traders and Green Street businesses on the design briefs for the four projects, including the three priority ideas selected in January 2020 by those that attended the community workshops.

During this engagement, local residents and business will be asked to vote on a selection of additional ideas help further shape the final briefs.  Your feedback will also be used to finalise the design briefs which will be published on this website and on the Council’s Green Street webpage.

Affordable Workspace

Up to 1,500m2 of truly affordable workspace will be created utilising part of the first-floor car park. This new workspace will provide opportunities for businesses and residents from Newham and further afield. Any income from these workspaces will be re-invested to support local community wealth building initiatives. The budget for this project is £2 million.

We are interested in understanding what businesses should be considered for the new affordable workspace that would contribute to building community wealth and the offer of the town centre? We have provided some ideas of the types of business or industries that the new affordable workspace could support.

We would like you to select your three favourite ideas by clicking on the thumbs up icon. You can provide comments on each idea that will be shared with the local community. If you would like more information about an idea simply click on it.
