Queen's Square
The Project
Queen’s Square is currently designated as public open space. There are no actively used public spaces in the area surrounding the market, and the roads and alleys around the buildings make pedestrian access through the site more difficult, and in some cases not very welcoming. With the introduction of more greenery and seating, the existing space can be better activated and create more opportunities for rest, play and cultural events. The toilets will no longer be required in Queen's Square as new public toilets will be provided inside the market.
Appointed Architects
East London-based JA Projects are leading design for Queen's Market and Queen's Square. JA Projects are experts in using architecture, art and performance to work with local communities to realise projects.

Working Group Minutes
Local residents and businesses applied and were independently selected to sit on the Queen's Market and Square key stakeholder working group. The working group members shared their knowledge of the area to help the design team and Newham Council better understand the aspirations of the broad range of key stakeholders. This guided the design and delivery of the projects for the Queen's Market and Queen's Square. The meeting were held between July 2021 and November 2021.
