The Project

The focus will be to upgrade the existing building to help improve the look, feel and function of the Queen’s Market. These improvements are designed to improve the experience for both traders and shoppers and encourage more people to visit, spend and enjoy all that is on offer at Queen's Market.

Appointed Architects

East London-based JA Projects are leading designs for the Queen’s Market and Queen's Square. JA Projects are experts in using architecture, art and performance to work with local communities to realise projects.

Working Group Minutes

Local residents and businesses applied and were independently selected to sit on the Queen's Market and Square key stakeholder working group. The working group members shared their knowledge of the area to help the design team and Newham Council better understand the aspirations of the broad range of key stakeholders. This guided the design and delivery of the projects for the Queen's Market and Square. The meetings were held between July 2021 and November 2021. August 24, 2020 - September 21, 2020

From 24 August 2020, the Council will be engaging with the local residents, Queens Market Traders and Green Street businesses on the design briefs for the four projects, including the three priority ideas selected in January 2020 by those that attended the community workshops.

During this engagement, local residents and business will be asked to vote on a selection of additional ideas help further shape the final briefs. Your feedback will also be used to finalise the design briefs which will be published on this website and on the Council’s Green Street webpage.

Queens Market

The scope of this this project is to focus on improving the look, feel and function of the Queen’s Market to provide a better trader and shopping experience. The budget for this project is £1.3 million.

We have identified a list of additional improvements to help improve the appearance and facilities of the market building. Through this engagement, we would like you to tell us which should also be considered if more funding became available. You can provide comments on each idea that will be shared with the local community.
