
Green Street Community Space
The Project
A new flexible community spaces, with a library, are planned for the vacant retail units underneath the Hamara Ghar. The space will provide a better and new home to the Green Street library and offer a wide-ranging programme of wellbeing-focused activities to the community.
Appointed Architects
Office S&M Architects have developed exciting plans for the new Green Street Community Space encompasing almost 600sqm of new community spaces.

Working Group minutes
Local residents and businesses applied and were independently selected to sit on the Affordable Workspace and Creative Wellbeing Space key stakeholder working group. The working group members shared their knowledge of the area to help the design team and Newham Council better understand the aspirations of the broad range of key stakeholders. This guided the design and delivery of the projects for the Creative Wellbeing Space and Affordable Workspace. The meetings were held between July 2021 and March 2022. Phases
Draft Design Brief Engagement
From 24 August 2020, the Council will be engaging with the local residents, Queens Market Traders and Green Street businesses on the design briefs for the four projects, including the three priority ideas selected in January 2020 by those that attended the community workshops.
During this engagement, local residents and business will be asked to vote on a selection of additional ideas help further shape the final briefs. Your feedback will also be used to finalise the design briefs which will be published on this website and on the Council’s Green Street webpage.
Creative Wellbeing Space
These former retail units below the Hamara Ghar will be converted into a new creative, cultural and wellbeing space, with cafe to be used by the Green Street community. This will be a flexible space over two floors with programming provided from a range of creative and wellbeing being organisations based in Newham and beyond. Initially the space will be designed to function as a ‘Green Room’ for community workshops and engagement exercises with a gallery and café. Later it will be developed to support further cultural and wellbeing activities. The budget for this project is £760,000.
