Singing together has an immensely positive impact on our health and wellbeing - you will leave these sessions breathing better but also feeling uplifted in your mood. This choir is a welcoming space for everyone. No musical experience is needed, just an interest in music and meeting others.

Raising Our Voices E15

Natasha Zielazinski•1 year ago DescriptionRaising Our Voices is a creative women’s choir project which supports the empowerment of women to raise their voice with confidence and joy. Based at Grassroots, E15, women from across the wider Canning Town and Custom House neighbourhood are invited to join mums from the Magpie project to form an intercultural and intergenerational community ensemble. The choir offers a safe space for women to express themselves, connect with each other and to feel a sense of belonging and community. We will: Build confidence and self-worth through creative expression and music-making Feel community and connection through sharing songs and learning from each other Support health and well-being through working with the body, breath, voice and gentle movement This choir is a welcoming space where ALL are welcome, valued and celebrated. No experience of music or singing is needed - the strength of the sound in the choir will be made from everyone coming together to raise their unique and distinctive voices!

Connecting through music - an ensemble for the over 65's

Natasha Zielazinski•3 years ago In Spring and Summer of 2024, we will work with local partners including Bonny Downs Community Association, East Ham Library and Community Albums to deliver ‘Connecting Through Music’, a music and well-being project for local residents 65+ years of age. This creative music project will invite participants to listen to music, share ideas, sing together, try new instruments and to learn to play and sing music as part of an ensemble. Across 8 weekly sessions we will explore: Breath work and gentle movement Vocal work to build confidence in raising our voices together Listening - to guest instrumentalists and through playing and singing together Sharing ideas and responses to the music we are making together  Creative work to develop lyrics for new songs and ideas for musical and instrumental material  Playing and singing as an ensemble  The well-being impact of projects like this are substantial – listening to and participating in music can support us to feel happy, to connect with others and to feel a sense of belonging. We are keen to work with this age group in order to address issues of isolation and loneliness alongside issues brought about by the decline of cognitive ability and physical health that many elderly people in our neighbourhood live with.
