Hannah Facey1 year ago Our disabled-led theatre company, Act Up! Newham will deliver inclusive rehearsals of an original play culminating in 7 performances at Newham Primary schools and 1 community performance in East Ham.Through these performances, led by disabled members of the community, we aim to allow children to see disabled people in leadership roles from an early age. We aim to challenge stereotypes around disability, encourage positive attitudes towards diversity and contribute to greater social cohesion and justice from the earliest possible stage. Our school performances will be accompanied by drama workshops led by our disabled members, which will encourage creative expression and open up age-appropriate discussions around access and inclusion between children and disabled members of the local community. By performing in schools with strong SEND support, we will also provide an opportunity for some children to see themselves represented on stage and in leadership roles.

Hannah Facey5 years ago It is special because it was a free space that encouraged all residents to understand more about animals. I used it very regularly as the person i support did work experience there as well as care farming every week. It was a place essential for their wellbeing and they are devasted that its closed. If we don't find a way to use a the space to create a fully funded local city farm then we will be letting down some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Hannah Facey5 years ago It was a centre of community for not just me but many older people who used the groups there and disabled people who didn't just attend blue sky actors there but spend alot of time seeing shows and visiting the cafe and doing other workshops - because they felt that it was the blue sky actors home and felt welcome so could interact with the wider community there. Also many families with young children spend alot of time there and socialised as well as did workshops and watched shows. its so important that now its in council hands that it stays as a community hub for everyone in the community, including the older generation and disabled adults as well as the youth.
