I divide my days between:-

Involving myself in Community Meetings.

I regularly attend my local Community Engagement Working Party.

The Old Peoples Reference Group.

The Patient Participation Group Network.

Creative Writing. I attend the Newham Poetry Group Sessions.

Reading mainly classic works of literature.

Supporting Arsenal.

I live in East Ham, and own my house ( terraced house) near Central

Park.

Languages spoken, English, French and German.

I call myself a Humanist,

Peter Landman4 years ago BACKGROUND.Reminder:- There was a murder in the park last week. The park is still shut.Within the previous cycle of Community Assemblies, there was a proposalsubmitted for a Design Out Crime Survey in Central Park. I think it lapsed.Would it serve to reassure, if it could be reinstated.SUPPLEMENTARYIf there is going to be such a survey, could general questions about general experience of the park be tagged on?FURTHER POSSIBLE SUPPLEMENTARY.I understand the Bowling Green is now played on..presumably weekends.What about use of the Hut during the week....for a let to another group..

Peter Landman4 years ago BACKGROUND.There was a murder in Central Park last week.So special reassurance might be needed.SPECIFIC.Within the previous Citizen Assembly Cycle a project was originally submitted to design a crime prevention survey in Central Park.So could this be resurrected with general satisfaction questions aboutuse of the park.SUPPLEMENTARYIs the Bowling Green Hut only used for week end Bowls games.Might it also be used during the week.

Peter Landman4 years ago I am an occasional writer for Newham Voices. On February 8th, to coverthe Cabinet Meeting, I walked past City Farm Campaigners outside theTown Hall. Admittedly I only passed by, But I had the impression they were just standing there without public interaction.After this at the meeting , the Mayor announced that a Deputation had been invited, but had been declined, as the Campaign spokespeople asked for a deputation on line. Subsequently Councillor James Asserseemed to me to give a good account of meetings he had especially held with members of he campaign. Well comments:- it seems to me hold demos where passers by are likely to respond ( more locally then in East Ham) , accept Council offers to listen, and if a good alternative use emerges from the Beckton Parks consultations...well and good.

Peter Landman4 years ago BASIC COMMENT:- NOT APPLYING ONLY TO THE ELDERLYThe issue of too many Chicken/ Kebab/ Burger shops has been with usfor years...been stated for years. I am not aware of any action.The Council has a special Food Officer ( in Public Health)So why haven't we seen any action ? Why not more Vegan eateries,Healthy Choices on Menus,,,grading of Eateries by Healthy Menus ( as with hygiene)......encourage fewer chips

Peter Landman5 years ago When we had townshows, 50,000 people attended, albeit over 2 days,.Accepted there aren;t the funds for these previous grand town shows.It seems to me we could still attract, and entertain, and inform in aMini Town show, If this could centre in a big Council Marquee withinformation and advice stalls, an ELFT Talking Therapies stall; and health checks..range of benefits,,,,,and healthy eating stalls...and main voly groupsrange of possible advice and health benefit...in one space

Peter Landman5 years ago We had quite a proportion of both faultily conceived projects; and projects and actions that were poorly attended...and therefore not value for money.EXAMPLES; during this past phase1) Project Geen Couch Day, There was a good initiative providing the couch for people to sit down on ...by our stalls at an event outside Sainsburys.....But should this amenity have been lifted into a Mental Health Project?2) Public Health Event with stalls at E. Ham Library.Three stalls were off the " mainstream"....mending cycles..tips on how to avoidnoxiously growing herbs. information on hate crime.....scarcely anyone attended any one of the three Over half of those who attended went up to the Police Community Neighbourhood stall ! 3) Laughter and Lattes at Central Park. Excellently set up project..big marquee ...socially distanced tables......free coffee and cake...chairbound exercises.But the majority who attended were people who knew each other before covid lockdown:- not substantive beenfit for vulnerable people isolated pre covid.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------so my idea comes down to better project evaluation....area of benefit.And protocol if small attendance ( 3 or under) on a project on 3 occasions.

Peter Landman5 years ago Because , as I see it, this contravines basic principles of public participation,and respect It is sending the message, if you want to be a Working Group Memebr, you have to show us, that you are suitable,. Council Staff are your lords and betters)Also it is some ineffective use of public money, residents who volunteer tojoin a working group will be motivated,,,and will already have experience of meetings, anyway.....in my view
