Over the tracks - Gardening Sow & Grow Project

Joy-Caron Canter•3 years ago project idea submitted on behalf of Mo & Tommy Parker! Over the tracks is a gardening project - mainly a growing project to produce edible plants, herbs, fruit and vegetables. We will encourage residents of all ages & backgrounds to get involved growing and harvesting from this new community garden space. People will be able to pick vegetables to take home as well as use them for community lunches and BBQs held in the garden.  We will aim to teach people of all ages, including young people how to grow and harvest different types of fruit, vegetables and herbs that they would usually not have access to - or can be expensive. We will also build a new preserving station - to teach people how to make jams & preserves. Which they will also be able to take away with them.  LBN have funding for capital works on the site. This funding would be specifically to run activities in the growing space. There will be at least 1 weekly session for children and 1 weekly session for adults

Royal Docks Grass Routes

Joy-Caron Canter•4 years ago Grass Routes will renovate, stitch together and activate a corridor of green/open spaces within the Royal Docks ward in Newham. The project will improve the green infrastructure of the ward/borough, enhancing biodiversity and increase access opportunities for residents to engage with nature by enhancing/creating publicly accessible green spaces for people and wildlife:FOOD GROWING: Community gardening, creating food growing spaces enabling local residents to learn to be more self-reliant. • TREE PLANTING: Plant and maintain trees, which will provide shade for wildlife and fauna• HABITATS: Improve habitats for invertebrates, birds, bugs, hedgehogs, butterflies and pollinators such as bees, creating a green corridor with a range of new habitats including hedge rows, providing wildlife corridors to find new food/water sources. We will turn grey into green creating parklets improving the area and increasing wildlife/biodiversity.• CLEAN UP: Clean up & litterpicks in local green spaces and parks• GREEN TRAINING: A green activities programme to support local people of all ages to access green spaces and engage with nature, providing regular learning opportunitiesSUSTAINABILITY & COMPOSTING: We will utilise grey water from butts and providing composting bins. Improve air quality

Joy-Caron Canter•5 years ago We already know the large number of residents, including children that are suffering from bad air quality (eg high rates of asthma) A campaign to encourage drivers to turn off their engines - especially not to idle engines outside of schools would be great. Even better, to encourage them to walk or cycle. It would also be good to implement green walls and posts to combat negative effects and help improve air quality. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/problem-solving/could-green-lamp-posts-solution-air-pollution-problem/amp/
