Addressing the Source of the Problem just behind Upton lANE

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago a huge amount of the issues manifesting on Upton Lane such as congestion, pavement parking, dangerous crossing, risk to children and other pedestrians, pollution, are connected to the four schools just off of it. Unless a school street grid is put in around the axis of St Anthony's Road /Elmhurst Road / Boleyn Road (and probably St George's Road too), many problems will persist. This is an entirely residential area so there is no through routing. The huge volume of traffic in the area at the end and beginning of the day is parents driving pupils. It is utterly unnecessary, should be tackled and can be done so relatively easily with school streets etc. Unless this is done, active travel alternatives will always be treated as second class options in the area.

Dangerous Cycling Stretch

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago i frequently get close passed on this stretch of road and moving to primary position in order to turn onto Ham Park Road can be dangerous and scary.

Pavement Parking

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago The pavement parking outside the shop is awful: cars, vans, HGVs double parked all over the pavement and children trying to weave their way through it all to get to school.

Dilapidated Road Surface

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago When you're cycling through this corner, if the drivers don't knock you off your bike, the road surface will.

Inconsiderate Driving

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago Drivers regularly swing through children crossing this road on their way to school, as well as frequently mounting the pavement as they join the traffic on Upton Lane.

Pavement prking

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago Vehicles regularly blocking the entire strip of narrow pavement here.

Pavement Parking

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago Large SUVs regularly parked here waiting to collect children, making the pavement dangerous for everyone else.

Parents of Stratford Academy parking on white zig zag lines at zebra crossing.

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago In their misplaced desire to ensure the safety of their children by inexplicably picking them up in a car, significant numbers of parents park on the zig zag lines at the zebra crossing, reducing lines of sight and making it dangerous for everyone else. Stratford Academy refuse to accept responsibility to engage with the parents of their pupils on this so it seems this behaviour will simply have to be designed out.

Drivers Ignoring Red Light

Karl O'Keeffe•3 years ago Drivers turning left towards Romford Road at this junction frequently go through the red light, regardless of whether there are, for example, school children crossing.
