Julie Walker1 year ago 'Come Rain or Shine' involves transforming a concreted area into a vibrant, green community space to enable year round activities and gatherings - adding a small gazebo to enable working together - a mini orchard with fruit trees- a potting table for gardening activities- a variety of plants to bring life and colour to the area.Residents and volunteers will help with planting, maintaining the garden, and creating a sense of community. This initiative will enhance the aesthetics of the space and also foster social connections, provide educational opportunities around gardening, and contribute to the residents well-being by offering a peaceful and green retreat. The project is inclusive and accessible for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The area is wheelchair accessible and spacious. It has seating areas, and the activities will engage people from diverse cultures and abilities. This approach ensures the entire resident community can participate, benefit, and enjoy the space together, fostering unity and inclusivity. As part of the project, there will be a series of inclusive gardening workshops. These workshops will cover a range of topics ensuring that everyone can participate, learn, and grow together and will strengthen community bonds and encourage collaboration among residents of all backgrounds and ages.

Julie Walker5 years ago — male youths have suffered significantly over Covid period and especially education and socialising. To add to that much knife crime whereas many young people have lost their lives. The borough needs to support young people to make them feel important plus enabling them to move forward successfully into their chosen career choice. Many youths do not have a role model thus mentoring would enable that gap snd guide/ coach them and point them in the right direction. In particular black males are under presented and often scapegoats and so get a very raw deal as such. A mentoring programme is a good starting point and especially if parents are involved where necessary as they are often the experts in their awareness of what support snd guidance is required.
