Football Is For Everyone: Newham Community Coaching project

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Football should be open to every child — but rising costs for facilities and coaching mean many families in Newham are being priced out of the game. Football Is For Everyone will change that by providing free and affordable football sessions led by FA-qualified coaches at Powerleague Newham. The project will run weekly training sessions during school term time until 2027, giving children the chance to enjoy regular physical activity, improve their football skills, and build confidence in a safe and supportive space. Playing football improves fitness, reduces stress, boosts self-esteem, and teaches teamwork and communication skills that benefit children far beyond the pitch. We will also deliver a summer holiday football camp, offering full days of fun, friendship and learning while giving parents affordable childcare during the long summer break. This project is about more than just football — it’s about creating opportunities for multiple children and families to be healthier, happier, and more connected as a community.

Práxeis Cafe: Community- Where Community, Hope & Healing Rise Together

Anonymous Participants•9 months ago In today’s world of wars, pandemics, financial crisis, loss and fears of AI replacing human touch, many people feel isolated, neglected and hopeless.Práxeis Cafe is a start-up social enterprise with a mission to strengthen public health, build community ties and improve mental wellbeing in London. We believe a café can be more than a place to eat — it can be a hub of hope, skills and belonging. Our project has three strands that set us apart from conventional cafés:First, we aim to run sourdough bread workshops with young people, giving them skills, confidence, positive role models and safe alternatives to knife crime — “putting down the knives and putting on the aprons.” The bread and baked goods produced will also support our commitment to feeding the homeless, offering free food for those most in need.Second, we will host wellbeing talks led by our co-founder, a qualified mental health nurse, offering early support, safe spaces and coping strategies to residents who may otherwise face long NHS waits (placing less pressure on the NHS and other services).Third, we will provide interpreting and translation support for immigrants and refugees, so that language is never a barrier to feeling at home. This will facilitate community integration and inclusion through help with documents, appointments, healthcare, schools, legal advice and daily life.Práxeis Cafe will be a welcoming community hub where food, wellbeing and community support come together to make Newham a safer, healthier and more connected place to live.

Fingerprint

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Fingerprint is a high impact social value project designed for looked-after children.Being in care often complicates how young people see themselves. They are frequently told what their futures will look like, and constantly reminded by systems, circumstances, and perceptions of how different their lives are. Through a process of mindfully delivered workshop engagements, we will explore the theme of identity beyond short term lived experience, challenging the alternative narrative. We will remind young people that they are shaping their own lives, full of moments and connections that extend beyond the label of “looked-after child.” At its core, the project seeks to open a wider conversation about young people in care. By providing space for reflection and expression, it offers emotional respite to a group too often overlooked. Using the outcomes of this project as ‘proof of concept’ data , Fingerprint can be scaled to reach more communities, amplifying voices that deserve to be heard.

Citizens of Nowhere

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Many young people of Asian, African, and diasporic heritage in Britain experience cultural tension, feeling caught between identities and never fully accepted. This project, led by young filmmakers of Black, Asian and eastern European heritage, explores these themes through films created by and about young people. In partnership with Art in the Docks, this youth led project will launch East London Shorts—bi-monthly screenings of 4–6 short films by independent London-based filmmakers. These events will provide invaluable exposure, networking, and dialogue, while engaging audiences across the community.Alongside screenings, filmmaking workshops will open the process to locals, showing its accessibility and inspiring new voices. The project celebrates young talent, amplifies underrepresented stories, and strengthens East London’s creative landscape.

Hear Our Voice

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Hear Our Voice is a free programme for 14–22-year-olds, using drama and theatre to build confidence, communication, and resilience. Participants gain skills for interviews, public speaking, teamwork, and emotional wellbeing, while finding positive outlets for stress and self-doubt. Newham is one of London’s most diverse yet disadvantaged boroughs, where youth unemployment nears 30% - this programme meets an urgent local need. Its unique strength is peer-to-peer delivery, with young facilitators offering relatable role models and authentic support.By funding Hear Our Voice, PPP will enable young people to turn potential into opportunity, and self-belief into action.

Art in the Docks- Culture Matters

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Culture Matters harnesses the power of art and culture to create lasting impact in the Royal Docks. The project addresses cultural inequity, recognising that access to cultural knowledge, confidence, and participation - often inherited in wealthier families - is less available in disadvantaged communities. By embedding cultural experiences into schools and community life, Culture Matters helps residents build the cultural capital that fosters aspiration, confidence, and opportunity. Rooted in the Royal Docks, the initiative is shaped by and for local people, with a strong focus on youth empowerment, health and wellbeing, and community participation. Through partnerships with grassroots cultural organisations, including youth-led groups, Culture Matters expands its reach and deepens its impact. The goal is simple yet ambitious: equitable access to culture, helping to close the social mobility gap. Ultimately, the project seeks to create meaningful, long-term change - transforming lives by nurturing confidence, ambition, and achievement through cultural engagement.

Finance For Impact

Anonymous Participants•10 months ago Finance for Impact will help Newham’s small charities and CICs stay open and strong. Many told us they feel lost with budgets, tax, and reporting — and some have even had to close, meaning fewer foodbanks, youth clubs, and spaces for residents. We want to change that. Over 12 months, we will run 15 free workshops in Beckton, plus give one-to-one coaching to over 100 organisations. We are also creating a free online hub with templates and videos that any group can use.We will support at least 200 organisations, giving them the tools to manage their money, apply for grants, and keep their doors open. One local leader said: “This training has been a lifeline — we finally feel in control of our finances.”By voting for Finance for Impact, you will be helping local groups survive, grow, and keep vital community spaces alive.

Resilient Futures Enrichment Days

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago Many young people within the community face daily stress, low confidence, and sometimes struggle to see a positive future for themselves. Parents tell us they want more safe, positive activities for their children, and schools say they need extra support to help pupils build resilience and raise aspirations. Which is why we have come together to build Resilient Futures Enrichment Days. We’ll be running special end-of-term activity days in local secondary schools and these days will give our young people: Healthy body, healthy mind sessions - fun fitness and practical tools for managing stress and building resilience.Life skills for every day - how to handle conflict, communicate with confidence, and believe in themselves.Inspiration for the future - meeting professionals, exploring career options, and discovering opportunities right here in East London. This project is led by Darrell Rabess, who grew up in East London and knows first-hand the pressures young people here face. Today, he is a residential property professional and a Men’s Physique athlete who has turned his passion for health and resilience into a way of giving back through Healthy Mind, Strong Body.Alongside him is Sarah Hayford, founder of The Land Collective, an award-winning social enterprise that has helped hundreds of underrepresented young people access careers in property and the built environment. Sarah has dedicated her career to breaking down barriers for young people who don’t have networks or role models in professional industries, creating pathways into work experience, apprenticeships and jobs.

Elite care: The Precious Woman Project

Anonymous Participants•11 months ago This project will support women within the Royal Docks and Beckton area, particularly single mothers, by providing a safe and welcoming space to focus on self-care, wellbeing, and personal growth. Many women in the area have told us they feel isolated, under pressure, and without opportunities to look after themselves. Our project will respond directly to this need by offering sessions that combine practical support with a focus on wellbeing. The sessions will include complimentary monthly facials and massage as well as six workshops throughout the year focusing on confidence, relationship and financial-building activities, as well as opportunities to connect with other women, helping to build a sense of community. Each participant will also receive care packages and guidance to continue their self-care at home. By improving self-worth and mental wellbeing, the project aims to strengthen relationships within families and contribute to a more connected neighbourhood. In the future, we plan to build on this foundation by offering training opportunities such as VTCT Level 2 qualifications in skincare and massage, as well as financial and entrepreneurship workshops. These skills will help women to gain confidence, improve employability, and create pathways to independence. By investing in women, we are investing in stronger families and a stronger community.

A new nesting raft and nesting box for ducks in Forest Lane Park- £350

Anonymous Participants•5 years ago This idea is proposed by the Newham Conservation Volunteers. The project will build a new nesting raft and nesting box for ducks or other waterfowl for the large pond located in Forest Lane Park E7.   The raft is intended to replace one installed by NCV approximately 10 years ago (which is now showing signs of wear). The raft and nest will be built by Newham residents and will benefit every visitor to the Park who is interested in wildlife and may ignite an interest in other park users. In addition it will benefit waterfowl who will have a safer place to nest during the season and to rest out of season. The raft will be built by NCV’s volunteers (Newham residents) and will teach simple carpentry skills to those who do not already have them.

Newham Parent Carer Forum

Anonymous Participants•3 years ago We have 800 members but we are aware that their are many more carers out there in Newham who are unaware of our group and the benefits that we offer. These include the chance to meet with other SEND carers, learning and supporting one another, whilst also being able to access a range of information, workshops, coffee mornings, conferences and fun family activities. We also act as a platform for carers to share their views and experiences about the services they receive and we use this feedback to work in partnership with the local authority, Health and other key partners to make sure that the services and provision that is offered to SEND families meet their needs and give the very best opportunities to our SEND children and young people. That said we would like to reach out to more Newham SEND carers and to attract new members to our forum we would like to offer the following:* Fun day for SEND families with specialist SEND activities and programmes.  * Pampering sessions as a way to attract new carers by offering some 'ME TIME' . * We would like to offer 'Short Breaks' to new and existing members. This would allow carers who are on call 24/7 to get away with other SEND parents on a day of fun, relaxation and enjoyment, allowing them to charge their batteries for their caring responsibilities. Theatre, Theme Parks, Seaside visits would all be on offer.* We would also like to offer visits to the coast and other attraction with a lovely lunch. Some carers are so busy with their caring roles that they have never had the opportunity to visit and enjoy the attractions of their local area and further afield. Ago this would offer some much need respite to carers - some of whom are stressed and worn out.

Young Talent

Anonymous Participants•4 years ago The aim of this project is to provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents. I aim to get as many young people involved in showcasing and volunteering to run the talent show. Such projects allow young people to direct their energy and talents in the right way. Such exciting opportunities get young people off the streets and into a safe environment where they can channel their attention into a productive activity especially now that other government charities such as NCS- The Challenge no longer run. As the project currently stands, there is flexibility with the exact location, however I have been in talks with Newvic Sixth Form. Young people have spent about two years at home due to COVID 19, this has resulted in varying mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. This project will aid young people integrate into society again in a fun and productive way.
