Cllr Gen Kitchen5 years ago Dog ownership and dog lovers transcend age, gender, ethnicity, wealth and ability. As realistic dog owners, we know that dogs off lead can cause disruptions to picnics, dog mess in the park, and scare people. Therefore, we are asking for an enclosed space so you can enjoy the park too. As a group, we want to improve our outdoor and community spaces so everyone can enjoy them. The dog-owning community of Royal Victoria Gardens would like to request up to £4,000 to create an enclosed area of the park, with high fences similar to the basketball and tennis courts. The community would like the area to have dog agility training, benches and a water pump for safety. If done well, this could bring local tourism to North Woolwich and could help the local business that surround the park, as well as making the park a nicer place. Most importantly, though, a secluded area for dogs will help with community cohesion and park maintenance.

We are asking for an enclosed space so you can enjoy the park too. We envision a closed space, with high fences similar to the basketball and tennis courts. The community would like the space to have dog agility training, benches and a water pump for puppies and dogs to play. This benefits families with and without dogs. Newham has no enclosed spaces for dogs and dog owners in comparison to Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Central London. With the rise of dog ownership due to lockdown, we should be encouraging sensible ownership and use of our shared spaces. Please find our presentation with costings, mood boards and need.
