katherine Clarke5 years ago http://muf.co.uk/diary/On behalf of Emilee Kiely - resident.We used to have street parties and everything, it’s still a close-knit community, but now the youth club has closed, there’s so little for the kids……The small green space on the estate had a planting project supported by the youth club, but now the club has closed, and the planting area has been vandalised.On Wednesday 9th June an afternoon was spent on site with local adults and children as part of the playground engagement to gather suggestions on how to revitalise the planting.From a long list of suggestions the priorities are to:· Make a secure fence· Include play in the planting and things for very small children so adults can come with small children· Provide running water to the planting areaThere are approximately 280 households that back onto the playground, many of the households have no dedicated outside space other than access walkways.Children, young people and their carers who live in the medium rise tower blocks surrounding the playground, many in overcrowded conditions, will benefit from improvements to the green space.The project will be delivered with muf architecture art who have been working in North Woolwich for over 10 years. Permission for improvements has been granted by Newham Housing who are the landowners.Volunteer It Yourself will be involved in the build process with workshops aimed at local young people, some of whom have already signed up.

katherine Clarke5 years ago I played here as a toddler – now I’m 30 and nothing has changed - except things are more broken…….hahahahaImprovements to Camel Road play area will benefit children who are currently under-provided for and addresses the Environment – including parks and green spaces - priority.In addition, repairing and improving spaces that are run down, builds community cohesion and improves perceptions of safety by making care visible.On 9th June an afternoon was spent with local children gathering suggestions for improvements.Their priorities are:· Replace broken play equipment with things that are more fun· Plant the fence with climbers to protect from the exhaust fumes from cars.· Deter anti-social behaviour with large signs made by local children.If successful we will ask the community which ideas to fund.There are approximately 280 households that back onto the playground, the majority have no dedicated outside space.I treat the playground like an extra room because I can’t find peace in my home as too many people live there……..young person, aged 11The project will be delivered with muf architecture art and Volunteer It Yourself who will involve local young people in the building process, some of whom have already signed up.
