Susanne Rauprich1 year ago The pandemic showed how strong Forest Gate can be when neighbours look out for each other. From Mutual Aid groups delivering food and medicines, to the Magpie Project’s Christmas hampers for families in need, local people proved how we care for one another.Yet many challenges remain. Older residents face loneliness, families struggle with the cost of childcare, and carers often feel isolated. At the same time, people of all ages want to contribute, connect and make Forest Gate a better place to live.We are bidding for £5,000 to establish Forest Gate – a Community that Cares. This funding will cover community consultations and co-design workshops, pilot activities such as shared meals, storytelling circles and family-friendly events, plus venue hire, childcare support, volunteer expenses and translation.The £5,000 will both deliver immediate benefits for residents and act as a feasibility stage for a longer-term, resident-run project. Together we will design a “give-give” model where older neighbours share time, skills and companionship – including light childcare – while younger residents provide digital help, errands and friendship.By voting for this project, you will help test and shape a long-term vision for a healthier, kinder and more connected Forest Gate.

Susanne Rauprich3 years ago Project Update August 2024We have set up a community resource for Newham, based in Forest Gate. We have purchased 20 gazebos for public use. These are available for hire or to borrow (depending on criteria) by any organisation or resident group in Newham. The gazebos are very high quality and sturdy and weare able to supply weights and sides if required. Project Proposal 2023: As our community develops, we are having more outdoor events, last year we had our first Green Fair, we also had street parties, and lots of annual events. All of them needed a gazebo to protect traders and customers from rain or sun. Our proposal is for a gazebo hire / borrow resource. Gazebos are expensive to hire, and most events have only a small budget or sometimes none. Woodgrange market lent their gazebos to 12 main events last year and lots of smaller ones. Having a central resource would allow people to use up to 20 gazebos for their event. Whether you are having a small or a large event these gazebos could make an outdoor event less stressful and more enjoyable to the organizers and the customers . If the event has a budget then a small hire fee will be charged which will be used to maintain the gazebos if the event does not have a budget the gazebos can be borrowed. Susanne Rauprich4 years ago The purpose of the project is to offer workshops where local residents can learn to repair and/or repurpose items such as electrical items or clothing. Skilled people would volunteer their time and expertise to help repair or repurpose any item from anyone in the community and pass on their skills. Susanne Rauprich4 years ago The aim of the project is to provide coordination and support to individual Forest Gate and Maryland residents as well as local groups that are actively running environmental or sustainability projects. This proposal aligns with all three local priorities.The groups that have benefited from the first round of Community Assembly CIL money, as have individuals who had a fantastic idea that won the support from local residents have greatly enhanced our neighbourhood. One year on everybody would benefit from better coordination and networking to make sure that efforts are not duplicated, funds go further, projects are maintained and made sustainable, and groups and activists can learn from each other to make a better impact.One Newham is a partnership network of voluntary and community organisations that are rooted locally and work to improve the lives of people in Newham. One Newham was created so that members learn from each other and collaborate.We will coordinate: - communications - information - networking events - an access point for potential volunteers from the community- training and learning opportunities Launch of Sustainability and Environmental Network at Forest Gate Library - 16.2.2023 Up to 30 groups and residents attended the launch eventSustainability Fair: In May 2023, our network will host Forest Gate’s first Sustainability Fair to show our local community what we can achieve together.

Susanne Rauprich5 years ago Newham has been affected more than many other places in the UK by Covid. We lost loved ones, we changed our way of life, some people suffer health and economic consequences that will last a while. Not everything will return to the normal we knew before Covid hit us hard. I think it would be good to find a way as a local community to take stock and commemorate what we lost as a way of healing together. Also to recognise that some communities have been hit harder than others and to celebrate the spirit of solidarity that has developed. We have seen some amazing generosity and love. Practically, I think we should think of a local memorial - maybe a piece of art. And maybe an event where we share memories and say thank you.
