Justine Rose5 years ago Many other London boroughs have residential and commercial food waste recycling. Currently in Newham this is incinerated, or put into landfill, a huge waste of a valuable resource. Recycling this resource into compost could; Reduce carbon emissions. Provide free (or cheap) compost for the new community gardens, and improved green spaces, may people on this platform have suggested. Save the council money buying compost for their own managed spaces. Reduce rates of recycling being contaminated with food. Reduce rats and other pests attracted to communal block and commercial bin areas. Help residents see their food waste all together and so encourage people to waste as little as possible. With a good mix of old and new developments, houses, flats, residential and commercial, Stratford & West Ham is a great location to try this out.
