Prevent cars from running through pedestrian green lights

James Cohen•1 month ago Currently if the traffic backs up around romford road / woodgrange road even a little bit drivers end up running through the pedestrian green lights. I propose adding box junctions and camera to prevent drivers from sprawling across the crossing when turning.

Make buses higher prioirty over car traffic

James Cohen•4 years ago Especially when there are tube strikes (and also on Saturdays) it takes so long to get to Stratford by bus because the roads are clogged with cars. It would be nice to prioritise public over private transport.

Better, safer crossing system for pedestrians

James Cohen•4 years ago These lights and islands are really unfriendly for pedestrians. This happens on all of the 4 crossings around the Romford Road, Woodgrange Road / Upton lane intersection. Cars run the lights here A LOT (also a lot of amber gamblers). Cars are often driving through the pcrossings when they are green for pedestrians, this is dangerous and annoying. Cyclists use the islands to cross (as the cycling infrastructure is nonexistant), they hog the pavement on the tiny islands. Cars routinely drive into the cycling boxes when they dont have to. The slalom route that pedestrians have to go through makes a bunch of pinch points that make it difficult for pedesetrians to interact with mobility scooter users and cyclists. The car traffic goes through this section WAY too fast. There are a number of visible remnants from crashes, near Iceland, near barclays etc where the barriers are completely destroyed. Traffic calming measuers are a must. The crossing should be level crossings for pedestrians forcing cars to slow down and prioritise them.

Remove billboards

James Cohen•3 years ago Some of the billboards take up more than half of the street for pedestrians. They should be removed.

Add bike left turn for Wyatt Road

James Cohen•3 years ago Currently Wyatt road is a one way street, it would be much safer if cyclists could turn left off Upton Lane here if there were a dedicated cycle lane.

Most drivers ignore the cycling box here

James Cohen•4 years ago The cycling box at the front is often occupied by drivers who don't understand what it means.

Make parking impossible here

James Cohen•4 years ago So much of the traffic backing up onto Romford road is because cars can park on this corner. The whole corner should be a double yellow line at a minimum.Cars also park on the pavement here a lot for the Palm tree lounge blocking up the whole pavement for pedestrian use, this has to be stopped.

Road surface south of vicrage road too rough

James Cohen•4 years ago I cycle back from Morissons this way as it is so much safer than cycling on Romford Road (and way less daunting). The road is fairly wide but the left hand side is so rough I need to cycle in the middle of the road, this is probably quite frustrating for cars that want to pass to get away from the junction.

Street greening

James Cohen•3 years ago The existing planters are great and we should add even more trees and plants to Upton Lane.

Mopeds driving on or parked on the pavement

James Cohen•3 years ago There are always delivery drivers riding petrol mopeds on the pavement mainly outside A'La Pizza (although does happen at some other venues), this is dangerous for pedestrians. Several times I've had a driver come right at me on the pavement. This is patently illegal and is especially a problem in the evenings.

Electric car charging

James Cohen•3 years ago There are no electric car charging points in this whole area. This is absolutely unacceptable if we want people to ditch their ICE vehicles.

Segregated cycle lanes

James Cohen•3 years ago Cycling on Upton Lane is terrifying, especially on the high street portion. Cyclists need a space where they are protected from the traffic. There should be segregated cycle lanes along its whole length. This is evidenced by how many cyclists (especially food deliver riders) are on the pavement.

Electric car rental

James Cohen•4 years ago Having some permanent rental cars in the area would be great as residents wouldn't need to own cars and would give more space on the street for other things. Other councils have done it. E.g. Hackneyhttps://hackneypost.co.uk/electric-vehicle-car-sharing-hackney/

Humped crossing

James Cohen•4 years ago It would be gread to have humped crossings on side turnings to slow down cars and prioritize foot traffic. E.g. On the entrance to Disraeli road.

Car sharing schemes

James Cohen•3 years ago Currently there are no car sharing schemes in the area, that is really annoying for when you want / need to use a car but have to use a rental service that only works for the whole day.

Urinations station phone box

James Cohen•4 years ago I have seen on a few occasions this phone box round the side of Barclays with people urinating behind it, it hardly makes you want to walk down the street. The box doesn't even look usable anymore. Maybe replace it with a nice plant.

Woodgrange road / Romford Road / Upton lane intersection

James Cohen•5 years ago I think this junction needs a complete overhaul to make the junction more pedestrian friendly but also to improve flow for cyclists. Currently it takes a long time to cross the islands are small and restricted. Simultaneously cyclists and e-scooters use this junction but they are large and take up lots of space. I think also improving parking enforcement on the Romford rd -> Woodgrange rd right hand turn would definitely improve the flow of traffic. There is a real problem with motorists traveling through this junction when the pedestrian lights are green.
