Jenny Duval 5 years ago Here are my thoughts on how Manor Park can be improved inline with a 15 minute neighbourhood and fulfil its full potential. We need a decent food shop. Right now Manor Park residents are relying on the Tesco metro by the petrol station or a small corner shop. As a consequence we are suffering with increased pollution due to home deliveries and for those who are not able to organise that they are left with a poor selection of food sorts sold at inflated prices. Neither good for health or the pocket. Also don't be afraid of pop up shops. They can greatly improve a high street and make it more dynamic which would attract new businesses to the area. Its a win win as you could also be helping local people test out a business idea for a set amount of time. Pavements for people. The majority of Newham residents do not own or have access to a car. According to your document we have the forth lowest car ownership per person in the whole of the UK. Despite this the cars are even on our pavements! We also have the highest deaths rates attributed to air pollution, which I do recognise can come from elsewhere as well, regardless you need to do all that you can to plan and legislate for the majority. The community needs a decent local family friendly pub. A meeting spot for friends, families and neighbours. A place that offers food, coffee and a good selection of beers and wines. This would help to both build the community and regenerate the high street as right we are left wanting and most people are forced to do any socialising elsewhere, which means disposable income spent in other boroughs. Please look after the next generation. There is absolutely nowhere for children to play or for parents to congregate. Appalling town planning and the consequence will be felt in both the mental and physical health of children and parents alike. Trees, plants, LTN and safe bicycle routes and bicycle parking. The bicycle route between Manor Park and Aldersbrook is an example of a good one. Plenty of example of bad ones that suddenly just stop or are not enforced so are filled up with parked cars meaning you are pushed into traffic. A 20 mph speed limit throughout Newham, which is enforced. Right now it feels as though Manor Park is a place that people just drive through (at speed).

Jenny Duval 5 years ago Plant street trees along Romford Road. This would immediately improve the character of this depressingly barren and highly polluted road. In the Manor Park section trees have been removed and not been replaced and others are excruciatingly sad and struggling for survival. Tree planting along the Romford Road would positively affect everyone living on and around this busy street for generations to come - so let’s use the community grant wisely to improve our environment and create a greener public space. This suggestion would improve Newham’s poor air quality, offer shading during heatwaves and cool down the streets, reduce flooding risk, boost biodiversity and generally improve public health and mood. Trees have also been credited to reduce crimes in areas in which are they’ve been planted and could also act as a deterrent to pavement parking. Let’s not delay. The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.
