I am part of Newham volunteers and a volunteer 'Community activator' where I support mainly Disabled, Disadvantage people with their mental ill health and well-being in Newham and the surrounding areas. I'm very passionate regarding preserving and maintaining our green spaces and environment and am proud to have lived in the area over 50 years.

Desmond Blake3 years ago To support a crucial men's mental health initiative. Our project addresses a significant gap in the current provisions for individuals engaging in 'People Powered Places'. Despite a higher prevalence of mental health issues among women, statistics reveal a distressing reality: men account for twice the number of suicides. This alarming discrepancy underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions tailored to men's specific needs, as they often struggle to access suitable therapies due to traditional societal norms discouraging emotional expression. Our proposed solution of film production, photography, and mindful discussions during walking sessions. By harnessing these creative mediums, participants will find a platform to express themselves, ultimately fostering improved mental well-being. This approach represents a non-medical, diversionary strategy, fostering camaraderie among men grappling with mental ill health. We intend to collaborate with established local initiatives such as nature walks, historical tours, arts-based activities, we aim to create a holistic support system that encompasses both physical and emotional facets of well-being. By supporting our project, you will not only support our participants' journey toward better mental health but also contribute to the overall enhancement of our community.
